Card/Documentation of Cuban Health Insurance Provided by CruiseLine

It looks that Cuba requires that Visitors have Cuba Health Insurance and that same (according to Carnival Web Page) is included in the "Govt Fees & Taxes" charge that's added to the cruisefare. Does the Cruiseline provide a Cuba Health Insurance card? Documentation? What do you show if you have to get Health Services? Thanks, Ken

The health insurance is automatically part of your visa. No need for a separate insurance card.

We are doing most of our excursions with Oceania, but possibly want to do one on our own. I understand that Oceania does include the health insurance as part of the visa that they obtain; will I have to purchase additional insurance on my own for our self-booked tour?

No. You can't buy it except from the Cuban government, and if you have the visa, you have the insurance.

Everyone in Cuba automatically has health insurance - it's part of the socialist system they have. When you travel there as a tourist, you are required to be a part of the socialized medical system that they have, and they require all tourists to pay a small "premium" to be part of the system. If you get sick, or are in an accident, and need medical care, you are covered. Cuban doctors enjoy a very good reputation around the world, but let's hope none of us have to meet one on our travels there.
