Is this Island Walkable?

We are arriving on the Caribbean Princess in November and we were wondering if we could just get off the boat and walk around or if we will need to book an excursion? Are there any must see things close to the ship?

The downtown area of Fort-de-France is a 2 min walk from the pier.  The Museum is there (Small, very small) but worth a look.  The library is also in the downtown area.

 

We have been to Martinique numerous times.  We normally spend a week at Point Du Bout in Tois-illets.  A ferry ride across the harbor from FDF.
