Alaska Land Tour

We are booked on the Golden SB with a Land Tour pre-cruise. Flying in from Mid-Atlantic it looks like most flights arrive Fairbanks at midnight Alaska time. Is it possible to add an extra night at the Princess Lodge in Fairbanks if we decided to fly in a day early? I guess the other option would be to fly to Seattle the day before and get to Fairbanks on an earlier flight the next day.

We booked a different hotel (in Fairbanks) for just that reason. We flew in 1 day early, landed around midnight, and stayed at the Best Western Chena River. 1/2 the price of the Princess lodge, with free breakfast included. We had a rental car for the day, did some sightseeing, and transferred ourselves to the Princess lodge that night.

I would look very closely at the itinerary so you know exactly what you are buying. Is the short 26-mile long Natural History Tour included? If so, that is like going to Disneyworld and just going to Main Street. Actually it is worse - at least from Main Street in Disneyworld you can see what you are missing - not so from the Natural History Tour. Best is a transit shuttle bus to Eielson (book independently). Next best is the Tundra Wilderness Tour, but that is only possible if you have 2 nights at Denali Princess.

How many nights do you spend at McKinley Princess? Do you realize it is in the middle of nowhere? It is almost a 1 hour bus ride each way to Talkeetna. You are (purposely) a captive audience at McKinley Princess so you have to spend $$ there.
