Carnival Mastercard- can all FunPoints be used to get Statement Redemption Credit?

Anyone know if non-Carnival transactions (vet bills, gas, etc) would generate FunPoints (at the 1 point per dollar rate) that would be able to be used as a statement redemption credit towards airline ticket purchases (i understand that the points must be used within 180 days of the earning transactions posting, for statement redemption credit). I know I can book airline tickets through the Barclays website, using FunPoints to pay for them, but I was interested in purchasing the airline tickets through another website, using the Mastercard to pay for them, and then using the statement redemption credit option to pay on the bill the following statement. Does this approach make sense, or am I missing something?

(Back story- I got this card with the intention of building points to use on future Carnival cruises, but I will be needing to fly to Orlando in March and therefore will be purchasing airline tickets in Dec-Jan. Unexpected expense, and was hoping I could use FunPoints to cover at least one of the airfares. I think the best way to go about that, if it works that way, is to purchase the airline tickets using the card, and then use all accrued FunPoints for a statement redemption credit towards paying it off on the next statement)

All purchases on the card build points at a value of 1x with the exception of Carnival purchases which earn 2x.

You can earn even more points by shopping through the credit card portal - for example I bought toner/ink not so long ago and got 15x points for that purchase.

A couple helpful tips -

If you purchase shore excursions through the carnival website with your MC, you will get a 10% refund on that purchase on your statement.

If your cruise charge is 1500 or more, your redemption against that purchase is better (your points get redeemed at 1.5x)

Hope that helps!

i use the carnival master card for everything. I use to just use a debit card all the time. Now i just pay the card off each month. Even you cell bill will earn you points. Now when you look at the rewards when cashing them in there is slight differences in the point value. Sometime each point is worth a penny and other times more like each point is worth .85 of a cent. I dont get the cheers package as we arent heavy drinkers but we do enjot a few here and there so i get the $100 bar tab. I get the first 100 dollars of drinks free. It doesnt take long but frees up money for other things. But to answer you question i havent found anything that doesnt generate points.

mredandchis—you sound just like me! I use my Carnival Mastercard for EVERYTHING to earn reward points, even using the Reward Booster in my account to order from various stores. I received 10/1 points through the site on new luggage from ebags. I paid for my last cruise IN ITS ENTIRETY AT TIME OF BOOKING, then received double points for doing so, then cashed in my rewards as a credit redemption of $1200 on my $1926 total cruise charge, that included trip insurance and prepaid gratuities. I then ALWAYS pay my bill off totally every month. If a person accrues the debt, it’s not a wise choice to do this. You need to pay your balance off monthly. I never use debit cards. They are too unsafe to use. A credit card offers much more protection. On that cruise that ended up costing me only $726 in the end, I cash in 5,000 reward points as soon as I accrue them towards bar credits, so I will not even have a final bill when leaving cruise, unless I make other purchases.

I have a Carnival card for many years. Use it for everything and let the points rack between trips. I use it to Book the cruise (2x points) as well as my onboard S&S account.

Onboard I charge everything to my S&S, as well as my casino Players account, Spa purchases and shops. In the end it all goes through as a single CARNIVAL CHARGE & receive 2x the points. (No casino cash advances, no fees)

Pay the bill after the charge goes through or cash in the points you just got towards a payment. You get the most value per point redemption towards your Carnival or Carnival brand purchases 5,000=$50

10,000-$100

15,000=$150

over any other redemptions like airfares, hotel or other redemptions.

I don’t precast any points for bar credits or OBC. If I do then the charge won’t go through to receive the 2x the points. I pay for that stuff on board, allow the charge to clear, THEN redeem my points.

Thanks so much for the responses so far! Has anyone used points to get a Statement Redemption Credit? With my unexpected travel in March 2019, I was hoping I could rack up points by using it in place of my debit card, and also purchasing my airline tickets with the Mastercard, then getting a statement redemption credit to pay off at least part of the airline ticket charges.

MMmm a statement redemption credit? Thinking the rewards on the cards website? On every cruise. And pay for the cruise with the card and book excursions for an extra credit. I think i got 16000 points now. another 4000 and i will cash in for 200 dollar free bar bill.

I believe the question the OP is asking is whether she can use points as statement credit for an airline ticket. I went to Barclays website and it appears that yes you can use the points against an airline ticket that you purchased with the card. OP if you haven't already go to Barclays website and read the rewards policy.

I understand that, but if she pays for flight with her card, she can then use her credits/rewards towards a statement credit, which is exactly what I did for my cruise.

Sorry to tag on to the OP's question, but what about redeeming the points period? I am booked for an April 2019 cruise and want to use my points to pay for my Gratuities. I am not sure I understand how this works. Do I wait until shortly before my departure date (15 days prior), to make the selection on the card website or can I do it this far out with no issues? Also, my wife and I want to split our points where she uses points to pay her half of the gratuities and I use my points to pay for my half. Can this be done? I have not received helpful feed back from the Barclay Card people. Any helpful tips, would be great!!

I've done a statement credit in the past without allocating the points to a specific purchase. So yes, you can do that!

This is what I’ve been trying to explain to everyone. Just do a statement credit with the rewards. Put whatever you want on the card—airline tickets, cruise, gratuities—and then apply the rewards for a statement credit. The only time I use rewards is when I’m purchasing something for my cruise, like OBC or Bar credits. As I mentioned previously, I put entire cruise on the card, then once all the reward points reflected that purchase, I redeemed them towards a statement credit. That was in January for my March 2019 cruise. Now, every time I accrue 5,000 reward points, I “purchase” bar credits with them, so I will not have to worry about a big post cruise bill.

Yes, you can pay for the airfare with your Carnival card and then later get a statement credit for all or part of the purchase. I have received statement credits for hotels and other charges, but the best redemption rate is for Carnival purchases. I have gotten a statement credit for one cruise and I have enough points to cover another next year. (I saved my points to get the best redemption value 100,000 points = $1500).

As for the husband/wife using their individual points to cover gratuities, you would need to pay for your own gratuities on your own card and then do a statement credit after the charges hit. (Go to Barclay's website, login and go to rewards. Use fun points and you will see a list of all of the charges that are available for a statement credit and when they expire.)

When I have a question about my Carnival card I always call Barclays directly. Sometimes the people at Carnival are a little vague or unaware of all the perks and how they work. Barclays is a safer bet.

Could you elaborate on the credit card portal shopping? I just logged on and didn’t see anything. Would love this option to get more points!

When on account, go to “Rewards and Benefits”, and then choose “RewardBoost”. That will take you to the site. You can choose the store your looking for through an alphabetical list. I’ve ordered gift cards through here and made other purchases. I earned 10x points on a luggage set and a purse through ebags. But you have to go through the Barclays Mastercard website to get these extra points.
