Coromandel vs Waiheke Island

 Share

Recommended Posts

We have a few hours in Auckland between back to back cruises in December 2019, and thinking of a tour in one of the above locations. What would you recommend?

We will have time in Auckland after the second cruise to explore the city itself,

Thanks.

You won't get to Coromandel in the time you have (it would take 90 minutes to get to Coromandel town by ferry, and they leave early in the morning, returning late at night).

Waiheke, you will be fine. There are lots of sailings during the day. There is a fair bit to do there, it depends what you like doing though. Lots of wine, nice beaches, good scenery.

Thanks, I'll do more research on Waiheke.

Trig42, being a local, knows best! Coromandel is def 'out' for you. We actually prefer Waiheke, quick 40min ferry ride, and many tours to choose from. Stunning scenery and an island we have visited many times. Suggest you check out fullers.co.nz which is the ferry operator. If you do go, make sure you catch the 2nd last ferry at the latest, back to Auckland re odd chance of inclement weather in late afternoon. Guarantee Waiheke won't disappoint you.
