pklein9747 Posted October 28, 2018 #1 Share Posted October 28, 2018 We used DSSR Bus Rental for a tour of Puerto Plata last week when the Carnival Glory stopped in the Dominican Republic and we were not disappointed! What a great company and tour guide! We had met another couple on the ship and asked them to join us and Chepe, the tour guide, was thrilled to include them. He even made sure to have enough drinks for all of us. His knowledge and love of the island comes through strong and clear in his narrative and we learned so much about this city. He made sure we hit every scheduled stop and timed it so well that we never ran into the larger tour groups from the cruise ship. We couldn't believe we were able to do so much in 5 hours: Tour of the rum factory, cigar rolling, chocolate factory, a tour of the town square and cathedral, lunch in an authentic Dominican restaurant, a short stop at the beach, the cable car and the gardens and statue at the top of the mountain. All for a very reasonable price. It was great that the company provides not just the tour guide but also a separate driver which allows each to concentrate on their individual jobs. I felt confident using them as they had a 5 star rating on Trip Advisor which we now know was well earned and accurate. We enjoyed this tour immensely and are so glad that we did it. The only thing about this tour is getting to the van. Since Carnival will not let outside vendors in the gate, you must walk out to the highway to meet the van/driver. It's about a 15 minute walk which is not too difficult.
mds0424 Posted November 1, 2018 #2 Share Posted November 1, 2018 We will be on the Glory later this month and stopping in Amber Cove. This is a new port to us. There will be 5 of us (4 adults & a 4 year old) Is this something you booked ahead or found in port? Do you mind sharing what the price of the tour was? Also, considering that it goes to a rum factory & cigar rolling, would this be an appropriate tour for a 4 year old (did you see any or many young children?) Thanks!
