florisdekort Posted November 12, 2018 #1 Share Posted November 12, 2018 I have never uploaded a video before so hope this works. We shot it using a GoPro two days ago when crossing the Panama Canal on Seabourn Quest. 9 hours compacted into 2 minutes. Enjoy! cruising kirby Posted November 12, 2018 #2 Share Posted November 12, 2018 I have been through the Panama Canal a couple of times and it never fails to impress! Its a shame it was wet early in your journey but it looks like it cleared up later in the day. Thanks for posting.

rols Posted November 14, 2018 #7 Share Posted November 14, 2018 Thanks for that Floris, really enjoyed watching it. It's a trip we've not done yet, been on the bucket list for a while but it's a long, long way from Singapore. That shoot makes the whole Panama canal look very simple. If you are interested in the history, or would just like an absorbing book to read on your next cruise, I would highly recommend "The Path Between The Seas" by David McCullough which narratively chronicles the decades it took to build that canal, the many false starts, the many, many who died and the sheer scale of engineering to make, for instance, the Culebra Cut which forged a path through the hills. It seems obvious now that you go up to Gatun Lake and down again, that lake being the power which fuels the entire enterprise, but it sure wasn't obvious when people were hacking around in the forest trying to work out where to dig. The Panama Canal is a testament to human engineering and sheer bloodymindedness. Enjoy the rest of your cruise, we're a little jealous that you have 5 weeks to run. Roxburgh Posted November 14, 2018 #8 Share Posted November 14, 2018 That was a great watch and especially when in the locks. I have never seen Seabourn passengers move so fast. 1
jenidallas Posted November 15, 2018 #9 Share Posted November 15, 2018 We have yet to do this routing and it was admittedly a bit further down the wish list before we watched your video. Now we are very intrigued!
