I need help with the In-Law's Cruise!

Hello there!
My in laws are flying into San Diego (we live in San Diego they dont) from Massachusettes for their cruise on the Carnival Spirit to Hawaii! I plan to go down to the airport to say hi etc etc.

For those that have done the Spirit from San Diego to Hawaii how does it work? I mean they fly into San Diego and catch a bus down to Ensanada Mexico. I was wondering if I need to help them find their baggage etc and put it on the bus?

Also any tours etc advice would be awesome!
Bobby

Hi,
We are taking the Spirit out of Ensenada on April 18th. We are not flying into San Diego (since we live in Orange County), But here is what I know.(if they are in this same cruise)
They will arrive at the airport and need to claim their luggage. Then in the baggage claim area there will be a Carnival Cruise Line Rep. who will direct them what to do with their luggage. Then they will be put on a bus and taken to the Cruise Ship Terminal there in San Diego to check in for the cruise. Then sometime around 5pm (not real sure on the time) the buses will be loaded again and they will be off for Ensenada. If they fly in early enough, you could probably take them to the cruise terminal and spend some time visiting with them once they are checked in.
Now remember, this information is based on the April 18th sailing.
Carnival can probably confirm this information if you give them a call.
I hope this helps.

As far as tours, tell them to rent a car in all their stops before they leave.

We found it way too convenient, and all others who had not, when they realized how pricey the tours were, got charged three times as much as me.

As far as getting from the plane to the busses, we collected our bags and followed the Carnival rep. Were heading to Ensenada by 11:00AM

Bobby, I wanted to let you know the 5pm time frame I gave you for the bus leaving the cruise terminal in San Diego for Ensenada was in our documents that arrived from our TA. We all thought that the buses would leave earlier, but everytime one of us calls either Greyhound or Carnival, we get the same story......"buses head to Ensenada starting at 5pm".
If you or your in-laws talked to Carnival, were you given any different information???? Just curious.

Cattolica, and Mr Pete! Thanks for the help!

So when they get to the cruise terminal in San Diego, what do they do with their bags? I mean do they turn them over to Carnival or do they take them BACK on the bus to Ensenada? OR do they turn them in once they get to Ensenanda?

WOW! They were given ZERO information from their Travel Agent! I hope this goes without a hitch because they are so worried about getting sea sick and everything!! UGH!

I wish I had the exact answer to that question about the luggage.
This is an assumption on my part, but here goes. If they take the bus from the airport to the cruise terminal, the Carnival Rep will tell them what will happen to their luggage, they may or may not need to claim it again at the cruise terminal. If you drive them to the terminal, there SHOULD be porters to take their luggage at which point it would either be loaded on a transport truck for the ride to Ensenada or it could end up on the buses with the passengers and would then end up in their cabin.
These would actually be good questions for Carnival.
We did purchase transfers from Carnival, but are not using the transfer from the SD airport to the cruise terminal. Since we live up in Orange County, we are taking Amtrak down and their station is almost across the street from the cruise terminal. It makes no sense for us to go over to the airport to be transported back! So, we are going to be turning our luggage over to the porters at the cruise terminal.
I am not sure if I am being more help or causing more confusion. If I could figure out how to scan the letter that was in our docs I would offer to e-mail it to you.
I think maybe the Travel Agent should be contacted and ask them to get the information from Carnival.
I really do hope I am helping and not hurting!

You will give them once, and they will be transported to the ship (I didn't really pay attention, if they traveled separtely in a truck or on the same bus...I was just happy to unload them).

You will not see them again once you hand them over in San Diego.

You will do all your check in on the bus with a Carnival rep, and you will walk onto the ship painlessly.

Bobby,
I am trying to scan the letter that we got with our docs. It is an official Carnival letter, that explains everything.
We do not check in on the bus on the way to Ensenada. We check in at the Cruise Terminal in San Diego. I think this may be a fairly new procedure (in the last couple of years.).
Here is my e-mail address cattolica@juno.com Why don't you send me an e-mail so that I have your address, then if I can get this darn letter scanned I will send it to you.
It may not be until this evening.....looks like I will need my husband's help.
