maxim730 Posted March 28, 2006 #27 Share Posted March 28, 2006 photos.yahoo.com http://www.shutterfly.com/ http://www.webshots.com I've used them all in the past and they are great. I might just choose one free service and upload all of my pics (baby pics to current)
calberry Posted May 1, 2006 #28 Share Posted May 1, 2006 I currently share photos with friends/family on kodakgallery.com (used to be ofoto). After perusing this thread I'm now thinking about going with smugmug myself. But I have a question about storage/back-up. I'm gradually filling up my laptop's memory with pictures/movies of the grandkids and vacations. Do people use storage devices to reduce the demand on PC memory, or can sites like smugmug be used to do that for you? Thanks, Steve

I'm gradually filling up my laptop's memory with pictures/movies of the grandkids and vacations. Do people use storage devices to reduce the demand on PC memory, or can sites like smugmug be used to do that for you? Thanks, Steve I like Smugmug and made up my first large gallery, or set of galleries, for my recent Hawaii cruise pictures. I keep all my photo's backed up at home, and would recommend you do this. I wouldn't trust all my photos to a commercial site. What would happen if they went out of business suddenly. These high tech internet companies come and go, and even the ones that stick around have technical problems and make changes from time to time. I have an old PC in the basement I network with our main PC, I put a large hard disk in it and back up my files over the network. If that is too extravagant, I'd back up regularly by putting a copy of the files onto a DVD disk. You can buy an external DVD writer for your laptop if it doesn't have on built in. ColdFusion Posted May 2, 2006 #31 Share Posted May 2, 2006 If you have enough webspace provided by your ISP, you can make your own. Have a look at JAlbum (http://jalbum.net/), it free and allows you to create your own galleries. I have done this and intergrated it with google maps. Have a look at http://www.mikeblackett.co.uk/maps for an example of my previous pictures.
