How formal is formal night?

How formal is formal night on Majesty of the Seas? Will my husband (a casual kind of guy) get kicked out of the dining room if he doesn't wear a jacket and tie? We're hoping a button-down shirt or a polo shirt will suffice.

Never been on Majesty however, I think the ONLY cruise ship line that sometimes even tries to enforce the formal dress code is Cunard (eg, Queen Mary 2).

On Royal, your husband will be fine ... on Carnival, he will be overdressed

He'll be fine. We were just on Empress, and jeans and a nice top will be fine.

We were on the Empress and were told (by our waiter) that Cuban cruises did not have a formal night.

We were on a Cuba trip on Majesty in November. Had a formal night and I wore long pants and a short sleeved button shirt. No problem. On longer cruises I take a blazer for formal night, no tie, and am overdressed. This applies to Princess, RCI and Carnival.
