Please help with passport!

I'm not sure if passports are necessary in Belize, so I can't help you there...and I know it's a huge chunk of money to put out, but it is so worth it in the long run to have passports that if you can find a way to swing it, you really should invest in them.

If they are traveling with you on a cruise, they don't need passports, but do need birth certifcates. However, I think it's a good idea for them to have one. I think their's is discounted if under 18, and good for 5 instead of 10 years.

I got my 13 yo daughters when she was 11 and just receieved my 9 y.o.'s yesterday. Under 16 the fee is $70, goes up to $85 when they turn 16.

Well worth it to go ahead and get the passport if you can swing it. Splitting them up and paying at different times helps a little Then they just have to pay the renewal fee when it comes due ($35 I think)

You do not need a passport for any of those ports.

In the whole cruise cost this is a minimal amount of money to pay for peace of mind. Although you do not need one if coming into belize on a cruise ship and only staying the day....what happens if you have some sort of accident and do not make it back to the boat. Your life would be made so much easier if you had a passport. Sure if all goes well you would not need one but are you willing to take that chance when traveloing with your children?

For what it's worth here is what we do:
Take a certified copy of birth certificates and picture ID for each of us and we leave that in the stateroom safe along with a copy of our passports. We cary our original passports on us while on the islands (a copy will do you very little good in a foreign country). If we lose our passports we still have sufficient ID on the ship.
