Hi everyone!

We have been to the Cayman Islands before and have done Stingray city and the land tour (Hell, 7 mile beach, etc.) BUT we hear the Cayman Islands are GREAT for snorkeling. We leave Saturday! Does anyone have any recommendations!? Tour or cab? The best places to go? Spanish bay reef resort maybe? :) Thanks for your help!! We are so excited! :D

We've snorkeled twice very close to the tender dock. There are a couple of places that rent equipment, and lockers. If you don't need equipment or want a locker, you can just get in the water from their docks. There is also an outdoor shower to rinse off. One place is Eden Rocks and the other is just down the street a way, can't remember the name. Easy entry into the water and lots of fish. We have a great bag for our snorkel equipment that doubles as a backpack, so we've snorkeled, rinsed off, threw on some clothes and then wandered around town for awhile. Just follow the street along the waterfront, going to your right as you exit the tender dock.

Have a great time!

head down to Sunset House

sunsethouse.com

easy in and easy out - among my favorite shore and nite dive sites and makes for pretty good snorkeling

and My Bar is right there for a libation and/or lunch (conch fritters and a cold one...) b4 heading back to the tenders.

far enuf from the town tho that it is much less crowded than Eden Rock.

I'm reviving this thread with a question about this place. Thought it might be a good place to go besides Eden's Rock, but do they let anyone in that isn't staying at their resort? I sort of sounds like it is for resort guests only. Anyone else know anything about this place? or Capt BJ?

Most of the places I'm familiar with in Cayman only restrict the introduction of 'outside tanks'. That is if you dive their site you are to rent tanks from them. And they won't let you use the pool... but access to the ocean is not restricted. Never in my experience anyway.

I've walked down from town every visit ..... usually did a shore dive but brought some snorkelers with me. (cruises and official visits)

Don't be surprised to see cruise staff/crew there. It is far enuf out of town to have few pass' hence a desired place by crew and locals.

Hint: do NOT play dominos with anyone lest you like to loose money!

Capt_BJ is Sunset house to the right after you get off the tenders? Is is in the same direction as Eden rock but farther down? Can you walk there? Sounds perfect for us if we decide just to stay near town!

THANKS for the recommendation!

Correct - turn right/south and it is about 1 mile. I/we walk it hauling my/our gear but u may prefer a cab.

Do note there is no 'beach' ... this is iron shore area. But there is a nice entry area with a ladder etc - rinse tank and shower

and a bar for post wetting 'wetting' :D

Fabulous! Thanks. We checked it out and it looks like that may be our plan.

We appreciate the advise. We have our own gear as well, enjoy a good long walk, and get VERY thirsty after snorkeling. This place sounds like it just may be perfect.
