drydock?

I'm new to this whole cruise thing and I read someone's post that the majesty will be drydocked. What is drydock, and if it's bad, I hope it's done by the end of next month!!!

Drydock is basically a tune up for a cruise ship. Time for drydock depends on how much refurbishment is planned. Drydock is usually scheduled way in advance.

Right. If you go to the Royal Caribbean website, and see a gap of a couple of weeks or so, with nothing available, that's when it's in drydock. (we use that term loosely; not all refurbishments are done in "drydock")

 

The end result is a ship that's been to the beauty salon. :D

Beauty salon!!!!???

 

That's the best comment I have "ever" heard for a ship!! So, the process includes getting your bottom scraped, re-zinced, primed and re-painted. Some of your interior gets gutted, with possibly a facelift, and other parts get a complete overhaul. If you get lucky............you might get cut in half and stretched!!!!!

 

And, all of this is done in the "Beauty salon!!!??!!?!"

Each ship is required to be drydocked every three years for underwater inspections and inspections of their propulsion systems. The other work is done while there is time to do it.

The Majesty is actually in pretty good shape now. She needs touch ups - new pool chairs (please RCI!!!!) and some carpet taken care of. For a ship that does the 3/4 night turnovers - the guests seem to treat her pretty well!!
