scots Posted January 17, 2006 #1 Share Posted January 17, 2006 Does anyone know if kilts are an acceptable form of dress for formal nights on Princess?
ciderapple Posted January 17, 2006 #2 Share Posted January 17, 2006 I don't see why not at all, it's a traditional formal dress. Wear your kilt with pride :) I honestly can't see that it would be a problem at all, I think kilts are one of the smartest forms of formal dress for men. CateW Posted January 17, 2006 #3 Share Posted January 17, 2006 One one of the more recent posts on this board, someone posted a picture of himself and his wife on formal night - he wearing kilts. I think he looked great and am sure you will too. You should wear them!
Ehpride Posted January 17, 2006 #4 Share Posted January 17, 2006 I saw someone with a kilt on our cruise. I think it'd be great!
BlueHerons Posted January 17, 2006 #5 Share Posted January 17, 2006 I love kilts on men! By all means wear the kilt as it is a perfectly acceptable form of formal wear.
ger_77 Posted January 17, 2006 #6 Share Posted January 17, 2006 A kilt is indeed considered proper attire on formal evenings. We were talking with friends the other day and all agree we like the look of a man in a kilt and all the finery. DH said if he were Scottish he would certainly wear a kilt on formal nights. Unfortunately, he's a mad Russian, and no, the big furry hat won't be making it's way onboard!!!:D trashieeuro: grow up. Smooth Sailing! :) :) :)
Jun27 Posted January 17, 2006 #7 Share Posted January 17, 2006 A kilt is certainly formal wear. :) Of course, as I am sure you know, strictly speaking an evening wear sporran and a Prince Charlie jacket and vest should be worn but not everyone sticks rigidly to the rules. A black Argylle jacket can also look very smart and I cheated at the second formal night and only wore a "jacobite shirt": John
memphismimi Posted January 18, 2006 #8 Share Posted January 18, 2006 John - is that really your family plaid? It is lovely. My only recent experience with a kilt was shoppong at a grocery in Memphis, in warm weather, and in walks a very tall, robust guy with very long hair, a scowl, a tool belt and a kilt...shopping for dinner...I wondered if he was a roofer:o
Jun27 Posted January 18, 2006 #9 Share Posted January 18, 2006 memphismimi, My maternal grandmother was a Ferguson. This tartan is an "Ancient Ferguson" rather than the more common "Modern Ferguson". I got this new kilt to go on Liberty's inaugural cruise last year and liked the more muted colours of the ancient. Thanks for your compliments. seadancer Posted January 18, 2006 #10 Share Posted January 18, 2006 Kilts are absolutely acceptable on RCCL for sure. I have seen them many times and I honestly believe they add to the occasion on formal nights. Enjoy Jeff
