Lee77 Posted January 17, 2006 #1 Share Posted January 17, 2006 We would like to take a cruise out of the NY port. What airport would be the closest and what transportation is available to get to the port? Also, are there any hotels that would offer a shuttle to the port if we flew in a day before the cruise? Andee Posted January 17, 2006 #2 Share Posted January 17, 2006 I'd fly into LaGuardia, arrange a car service (we've had good experiences with Tel Aviv and Carmel) to the hotel, and take a cab (generally under $10) from the hotel to the pier. claud925 Posted January 17, 2006 #3 Share Posted January 17, 2006 If you mean the Port of NY (Manhattan - west side piers), then yes LaGuardia is best. If you meant Port of Bayonne, however, that's another airport altogether . . .
Lee77 Posted January 30, 2006 Author #4 Share Posted January 30, 2006 What about using the transfers through the cruise line for La Guardia? NCL charges $60.00 PP RT. I know we might pay more but I am looking for convenience.
JJPNYC Posted February 4, 2006 #5 Share Posted February 4, 2006 If looking for convenience, I'd go with the NCL transfer. Granted you may end up waiting a bit more at the airport & at the pier for the bus to leave, but I also know that finding a cab at the pier can be a bit of a chaotic experience. If doing the math, a cab from LGA to the pier would probably run you about $30 plus another $4 for tolls and $5 for tip each way. So yes, you are paying a bit more for the convenience of the NCL transfer but not an absurb premium for it.
cruisetmc Posted March 4, 2006 #6 Share Posted March 4, 2006 We are looking at one of the Victory's fall trips. So LaGuardia is the airport to fly into, any suggestions on hotels close to the airport? I'm sure the hotels won't shuttle.
JJPNYC Posted March 5, 2006 #7 Share Posted March 5, 2006 No, none of the airports offer shuttle service to the pier. The airport hotels at LGA are the usual suspects - Wyndham, Marriott, Radisson, etc. Cab fare will probably be in the range of $30 (plus a $4.50 toll for the Tri-Boro bridge, unless you tell the cabby to take the 59th Street bridge which doens't charge a toll). Your hotel can set up a car service for you. You may also want to call either Dial-7 (http://www.dial7.com) or Carmel (http://www.carmellimo.com) as they are the big car service companies. They charge around $25 (be sure to print the coupons from the websites to get this fare) from LGA. To get them though, you may need to take the hotel shuttle van back to LGA and "pretend" that you have just arrived as they may not pick you up at the hotel. They can always be called on-demand at the airport and be there in about 5-10 minutes to whisk you off to the pier.
Juliadlf Posted March 6, 2006 #8 Share Posted March 6, 2006 Here is a link for the City Guide Magazine for NYC transportation. http://www.cityguidemagazine.com/listingsmain.cfm?tablename=CarServices&cat=1 If you email the different companies and explain what your looking for, I'm sure they will reply. Also here is a company a friend of ours referred us to that does transportation to the piers in the NYC area. We haven't used them yet but perhaps someone on the board may have. http://www.davesbestlimos.com/pier-transportation.htm Also when you book your hotel, ask them if they have car/shuttle service to the pier.
