Cruise Line Drinking Age...Also any recomendations?

Me and my buddy have decided that in two years from March we want to go on a cruise...we have figured that this will be the last time that both of us are gonna be able to hang out as he will be entering the military after graduating college....so he will be 21 and I will be 20 (less than 2 monthes from my birthday)... So I have a couple questions...

1- are there any cruises that you know of that we can go on that allows a 20 and a 21 year old to share a room...I know most cruises dont like anyone under 21 sharing a room with anyone younger then 25...so any recomendations?

2- I want to go on a cruise where I could be able to drink...I will only be 1.5 monthes from my birthday, and would enjoy having a beer or two on board as this is my buddies and mine last trip together for a while....

3- Im looking for a cruise line where the cabins are large enough to move around...I have been on two cruises and only really remember one of them, and Holland Americas rooms are plenty big enough but I am looking for a cruise line that is a little more active then HA....so what should I look for....

Thanks for everyones help!!!

I would go to each cruiselines websites and read their policies on drinking and traveling if under 21. I'm thinking that I read that anyone under 21 must have a parent's signed consent for you to drink. From these boards and talking to others who have cruised, I think that you would have the most fun on a Carnival ship.

Yeah, I have done that with Carnival and RCI, thinking that one of them would allow it, but Im thinking that I might either A) Wait, and take it after my birthday in early May, maybe as a graduation present instead of Spring Break... or B) Just use a fake, that is if they dont put your age on the cards and they just use ID's....but in either case that wont work for getting on the ship as I will still be under 21, does anyone have any info on whether I can be under 21 and share a room with my buddy?

Each cruise line has it's own policy as to how old you have to be to book a cabin. I would check on the cruise line's web sites or talk to a local TA that deals in cruises.

As for a fake ID, You will need a passport or DL and raised seal birth certificate to get on the ship. As far as I know (we researched this for a cruise with our 19 & 20 yo children) only RCCL allows those between 18 and 21 to drink and then only beer and wine. They keep track of the age of folks by holes in sea pass cards. Under 18 or parent didn't sign a waiver to allow drinking...2 holes, between 18 & 21 with signed permission..1 hole and over 21 no holes.

All of the above being said....If your buddy goes up to the bar and gets 2 beers it is likely no one will think twice.

Yeah, I was just gonna use the fake for the drinking part only...but Holland America and RCCL both use the holes apparently...Im mainly just worried about getting a room with my buddy, we will work out the drinking thing...

NVM I JUST FOUND THIS!!

What is Royal Caribbean International's Age Policy?

No guest under the age of twenty-one (21) will be booked in a stateroom unless accompanied by an adult twenty-one (21) years of age, or older. This age limit will be waived for minor children sailing with their parents or guardians in adjacent staterooms or under-aged married couples (proof of marriage is required). Royal Caribbean International reserves the right to ask for proof of age. Please note: An individual's age on the date of sailing determines his or her status for the entire cruise vacation. Royal Caribbean International's age policy for gambling and consumption of alcoholic beverages is as follows:

Guests eighteen (18) years of age and older are welcome to play in our casinos (for all Alaska sailings, guests must be 21 years of age in order to play in our casinos).

Guests eighteen to twenty (18-20) years of age are welcome to enjoy beer and wine (for all Alaska sailings, guests must be 21 years of age in order to consume beer, wine and any other alcoholic beverages).

Guests twenty-one (21) years of age and older are welcome to enjoy all alcoholic beverages.

So Beer and Wine are fine (not to Rhyme)...but mixed drinks are out....unless my buddy buys them for me....sweet....

If you get caught using a fake ID for anything on a cruise, they can and will throw you off and you don't get a refund for any unused fare. Unlike using fake ID's where you live, cruise lines take this kind of thing very seriously and they will not hesitate to remove you from the ship for fake ID's.

Also, they could also remove you and your friend from the ship if he buys you any drinks illegally. Like I said, cruise ships tend to take these things more seriously than any place else.

As for age, most cruise lines have a minumum age to cruise as 21 and if you're not 21 on the very first day of your cruise, you will not be allowed to board the ship unless you have someone age 25 or older in the cabin with you. Princess and Disney have age 18 as their minimum age, but neither of those lines are one's that young guys would like.

The other thing to remember is they will ask to see you sign and sail / room key card and that card will indicate wether you are old enough to drink or gamble..That is the the card that cruise lines use as proof because it is linked to your passport or other ID you give at check in
