Possible to do Tulum by bus on shorter Calica/Playa Del Carmen day?

Most folks talk about doing Tulum on their Cozumel day, which for us shows 9:00am - midnight as the docking time.

We've thought about doing it the next day, but the Celebration leaves much earlier, schedule says 7:00am - 4:00pm.

We'd like to keep the price as low as possible, taxis are a bit expensive for the two of us, so thought we'd try the bus system.

Don't know which one we'll be docking at, Calica or Playa Del Carmen. Do the busses run from either? Taking a taxi to PDC seems a waste, if we're just heading back the other way.

Any help or pointers to any reference material on the bus system would be appreciated.

You can easily get to Tulum via bus from Calica or PDC. Of course Calica would be much closer to Tulum, but either would allow plenty of time.

Last time we were there on a land trip, we stayed near Tulum and also discovered the cenotes - great underground cave pools that are great for swimming and exploring. There are several of them in that area - the one we went to was Dos Ojos (2 eyes)...It was very close to Tulum and would be a nice way to cool off after exploring the ruins.

Enjoy your cruise!

I can't answer about the busses, but when we were on the Celebration just 2 weeks ago, we docked at Calica and rented a car there, so we could go to Tuluum on our own. We had plenty of time for it, but then we didn't squeeze in any other areas/places and we also didn't get off the ship until quite a bit after 10:00AM (since we had our 3 kids with us and they do NOT move very fast! icon_biggrin.gif ). The ruins were TREMENDOUS--DH took more than 40 pics plus did videotaping. It has to be one of the most beautiful and interesting sites to see. Be aware that it is tough terrain & you'll want to wear decent walking shoes.
