airdale Posted April 9, 2004 #3 Share Posted April 9, 2004 maps, Carnival's TA's are called PVP's or a Personal Vacation Planner. The lady you talked with is your PVP. Mine has taken great care of us. Call her for ANYTHING you need information about, just like you would do with a TA. Until the Elation
CruiseFever Posted April 9, 2004 #4 Share Posted April 9, 2004 They can really "take you under their wing" if you'll let them. I still talk to our first PVP who has since been promoted and works in a different department but is still a great source of information Happy Cruising Chris www.LifeIsCruising.com Next up: Caribbean Princess 06/04 Star Princess 10/04 Carnival Spirit 12/
Cotton Posted April 9, 2004 #5 Share Posted April 9, 2004 Maps, once you get established with a PVP, you'll really enjoy it. I've used the same one for the past three cruises, and she's great! She emails me (sometimes calls) when there's a good deal coming up, and she lets me know after I've booked about rate reductions...and also gets me onboard credits! She also send me Christmas cards. stlrboo Posted April 9, 2004 #6 Share Posted April 9, 2004 Christmas cards??? I'll be truthful, and other than my original booking with Bridget, I have talked to a different PVP every time I've called.. She started me in the right direction, and I've had wonderful help ever since. Sooner or later I'll find my 'personal' PVP, but I wouldn't worry if I didn't have one.. I'm happy.. Any PVP's want to volunteer??? SoFloDeb Posted April 9, 2004 #7 Share Posted April 9, 2004 Hey you all with personal PVP's, my hubby sent his resume in last weekend in the response to an e-mail. We just heard that they will begin contacting in about 10 days. If you know a PVP put in a good word him, he would really be excellent at this job. Legend Posted April 10, 2004 #8 Share Posted April 10, 2004 A PVP is different than calling 1-800-carnival. When you call that number you get a different person every time but a PVP is assigned to you forever.
Cotton Posted April 10, 2004 #9 Share Posted April 10, 2004 Well, Legend, that's not entirely correct. You CAN get a different PVP if you want to. I just stick with this one 'cause I really like her. But you are correct about calling the 800 number. You get a Carnival rep, which is entirely different from a PVP. Stirboo - Yes, Christmas cards! Pretty Carnival Christmas cards. I think it's nice that she does this. What IS your problem? Cruising89143 Posted April 10, 2004 #12 Share Posted April 10, 2004 quote: Soooooo ??? When you use the PVP, do you still take your reservation to a Travel Agent ?? You have the option of leaving the booking with Carnival or transferring to an outside TA. When I booked for the Glory last year, I originally booked through a PVP but I had a TA that beat the price by about $125.00 per person so I transferred my booking. I have found only once that Carnival was able to meet or beat an outside TA price. Cotton Posted April 10, 2004 #13 Share Posted April 10, 2004 K.C. ~ I can give you the Executive Offices number where the PVP offices can be reached: 1/800-819-3902. I wish I could also give you the name and ext. number of my PVP, but this board doesn't allow that (nor TAs, etc.). Voyager ~ You asked "Do you still take your reservations to a TA?" Well, you could do that, OR book directly with the PVP, which is what I do. eerbeek Posted April 10, 2004 #14 Share Posted April 10, 2004 MY PVP is the BEST! We chat about our families, the weather, etc. He called DBF when I couldn't dial 'area codes' during the blackout to let DBF know I was "moving in". I called him to check on things during the recent Miami fires. ALWAYS, champagne in each other's cabin! Now that I'm booked, it's a mandatory "every third day" call to ask a "bonafide" cruising question or just to announce my countdown. I try to throw in a ?? just in case the call is 'Monitored for quality assurance'. Develop a relationship with your PVP.... there's NO WAY to be sorry about doing so! Elaine515 Posted April 10, 2004 #15 Share Posted April 10, 2004 I also had a wonderful PVP until she got a promotion into the Customer Service Dept. That's when I got truly upset. I had noone to call, noone to talk to, noone to ask my questions, so I took my booking to an outside TA. I would have stayed booked with/thru Carnival had she just given my name and bookings (4 cabins) to another PVP to take over. That's when I got upset with Carnival. I felt like they just left me high and dry.
maps Posted April 10, 2004 Author #16 Share Posted April 10, 2004 thanks so much for all the replies. it seems then that the person i talked to at carnival is not my pvp even though she gave me her name and extension--is that correct? can she become my pvp? also, is there a fee for this service and other than asking them questions, are there any other benefits to having a pvp? thanks again
Cotton Posted April 11, 2004 #17 Share Posted April 11, 2004 No, there is no fee involved. I can only tell you about my PVP. She's always there and ready to help anytime I have any questions prior to the cruise. I think I mentioned above that she has called me with reduced fare, as well as gotten me shipboard credits after final payment. She's kinda my own little insurance policy for a great cruise experience - from pre-booking to end of the cruise. I've ALWAYS gotten the very best deal by using my PVP. Give it a try. If you don't like using a PVP, you can always switch from her to a TA. voyagerfl Posted April 11, 2004 #18 Share Posted April 11, 2004 Sooooo, can you still call 'your' PVP, once you've taken the cruise to your Travel Agent ? I know under normal circumstances, that once you go through a travel agent, Carnival will not discuss your cruise directly with you.
eerbeek Posted April 11, 2004 #19 Share Posted April 11, 2004 You can call for questions and such, but I think they are restricted on discussing the booking or upgrades or whatever goes along WITH the booking. If you have generic questions (about ports, dining, etc.), I'm sure they would be glad to help. Cotton Posted April 11, 2004 #21 Share Posted April 11, 2004 KC, no prob. It never hurts to check out several sources. Even tho I do trust my PVP, I always check w/a local TA, a couple of online agencies, and THEN call my PVP - have always ended up with the best rate from her. (hehehe - her initials are MH.)
