We are wanting to go to beach but not an all inclusive hotel one. Any good beaches to go to and just relax and swim close to the port? Or any hotels that offer pool and beach packages without the AL option?

All beaches are free in Mexico. However hotels donot need to give you access to the beach. Also you cannot use facilities of the hotels when you are non guests.

There is a beach almost next to the cruise terminal but you need to bring your own towels, chairs etc.

Check the posts re daypasses as various options are given.

Also Playa Los Muertes in town has a lot of restaurants right on the beach. By buying food and drinks you can use their chairs and bathroom.

Ine's suggestion -- Playa Los Muertes -- is good.  Grab a taxi from the pier, and then go to one of the restaurants and order a couple of drinks, an appetizer, and settle in!

You'll see a lot about Federal taxis and local taxis -- don't sweat it, just head out to the beach and have fun.
