Luv2cruz1000 Posted March 19, 2019 #1 Share Posted March 19, 2019 (edited) Had planned to get off the ship and stay in Marseille however I am seeing more people saying to leave the old port area. Aix seems easy to get to, any other easy do it your self towns, small cities that are a better option. We will be visiting Paris prior to the cruise so we may not want a large city port day. First and likely only visit to France. Edited March 19, 2019 by Luv2cruz1000 Spelling
Rare marazul Posted March 19, 2019 #2 Share Posted March 19, 2019 Aix is the easiest town to get to from Marseille on your own. It is not a large city. Don't miss it. You might want to look in your roll call for a small private tour that will take you to other places. If this is likely to be your one and only visit to France, make the most of it. You will be in one of the most beautiful areas of the country. Marseille gets a B- on the interest scale compared to other places like Aix, Avignon, Les Baux and Arles which are A to A+. Luv2cruz1000 Posted March 19, 2019 Author #3 Share Posted March 19, 2019 Looking at Aix but also wondered if Avignon is easier and/or more interesting?
Rare marazul Posted March 19, 2019 #4 Share Posted March 19, 2019 Aix is closer. Avignon is more interesting (IMO). You can take a train to Gare d'Avignon Centre (about 1 hour) and walk to the Pope's Palace in about 15 minutes. Check the train schedules here https://en.oui.sncf/en/ See if you could find a shared tour to Avignon and Les Baux through your roll call. You would get a lot more out of your day.
