Purchasing onboard credit or do you have to buy Funship Dollars?

I tried to use the search feature for both of those topics, and of course, nothing came up!

I know I read about this awhile back on the boards.

Can you buy shipboard credit prior to someone's cruise or do you have to purchase the funship dollars? The funship dollars seem like a huge hassle, recieve them, mail them back and hopefully they get credited?!? I've searched the CCL website and it just describes the funship dollars.

Any experiences on this?

Yes you can buy shipboard credit and it is automatically credited to their s&s account. I have the 800 number at work. If nobody else posts it here I will post it tomorrow.

I was told that the decision as to whether to accept funship dollars at the pursors desk varies from ship to ship, so you are better off either having them directly applied to your account when you call, or mailing the funship dollars in to Carnival as directed on the back of the certificate.

I agree, put them on your account as shipboard credit, already taken care of before you board. Also, be sure you bring confirmation and any other documentation you get to prove you have that credit should the ship's system be out of whack.

They will ask you whether you want the certificates mailed to you or placed on your account. I have been putting $100 (you can pick from $100 to $500 at a time)every month as a way of saving up for the cruise. You will get a receipt via e-mail after your transaction - it will say "gift certificate" but if you chose to place it on your account, it will say "onboard credit" in the upper right corner where the delivery instructions are.

What if you have credit left after the cruise?? Does it work the same way...do you get a check under your door or do they make you use the credit on a future sailing??

They will issue you a check for any remaining credit at the end of the cruise.

I am going to have to try to send in some money each month toward a shipboard credit. It would be nice to have enough in the S & S account to cover expenses before we cruise, so we don't get a big credit card bill after the cruise. I am so glad I found this board. It has been most helpful. Thanks to you all.
