Rare Copper10-8 Posted April 24, 2019 #1 Share Posted April 24, 2019 A port you don't see too often; HAL's Vista-class' Westerdam at Vladivostok, Russia on Mon, 22 APR 19. The second cruise ship is Costa Crociere's Costa neoRomantica (formerly just Costa Romantica)

Sir PMP Posted April 24, 2019 #3 Share Posted April 24, 2019 We were there with the Volendam in 2011, alternate route because of the Tsunami in Japan, right behind the Westerdam is a railway station, this is the beginning of the Orient Express to Moscow/Istanbul, when we were they had a band playing waving the train passengers goodbye...

St Pete Cruiser Posted April 25, 2019 #5 Share Posted April 25, 2019 We were fortunate to be aboard Westerdam in Vladivostok this past Monday, April 22. It was her maiden call and Captain Ryan's first time as well. Doing a 14 day Japan itinerary, requires including a "foreign" port, and thus we did Russia this time. Spring had not greened up Vladivostok yet, but it was sunny. Overall, a nice adventure. We had this beautiful view from our verandah of the bridge and harbor with part of the Russian Navy fleet.

Nice pic of the Russian Pacific fleet (A very small part of it) Pennant #715 is the Sovremenny-class destroyer RFS Bystry (Quick) with another Sovremenny on her port side. The third ship with the white superstructure and the big "golf ball" is the RFS Marshal Krylov, a project 1914.1-type missile range instrumentation (tracking) vessel The bridge is the Russky Bridge that connects Russki Island and the Muravyov-Amursky Peninsula. Kinda looks a bit like the one in Rotterdam 1
St Pete Cruiser Posted April 26, 2019 #8 Share Posted April 26, 2019 Thanks for the identification. You are the best! Vladivostok has two newer cable stayed bridges. I think the larger one is the Russky which Westerdam passed under. Makes our Skyway Bridge at Tampa Bay entrance look small. First pic is Russky. Second is bridge close to the city where we docked. 1
St Pete Cruiser Posted April 26, 2019 #9 Share Posted April 26, 2019 Russky Bridge towers angle together rather than apart. Over 320 meters high towers and 70 meters clearance over the Eastern Bosphorus, it is indeed huge.
