lovetotraveltx Posted May 5, 2019 #1 Share Posted May 5, 2019 What neighborhood/area of Manhattan is best to stay for a night or two before boarding the QM2. We would like an easy time getting to the ship the morning of our sailing. Thank you!
Underwatr Posted May 5, 2019 #2 Share Posted May 5, 2019 So many variables! Are you somewhat budget-conscious, or does anything go? What would you like to do for your day(s) in New York? Since you'd be traveling to the ship in a cab or hired car, I think any location in New York would be as easy for getting to the ship as any other. We've stayed downtown close to the World Trade Center and midtown across from Macy's.

I would recommend the MIDTOWN / Times Square area, or the Theater District (pretty much a similar location) if you want to see anything, shop or have easy access to the most restaurants. However it is farther from the dock. Alternatively, you could go to the Financial district, which will have quicker/easier access to the docks (just a tunnel or bridge away), but it pretty much closes up after 5pm and on weekends, so not much to see other than Battery Park and WTC memorial. May get lower rates for this area on weekend nights.
Mickb Posted May 5, 2019 #4 Share Posted May 5, 2019 We stayed at the Hilton Times Sq when we were last in NYC. It’s not too difficult for Red Hook and is right in the centre of things.
MarkBearSF Posted May 5, 2019 #5 Share Posted May 5, 2019 (edited) I definitely recommend midtown Manhattan, near Times Square. You're close to most of the sights and the Times Square subway station has direct connections to most sights that aren't walkable. Red Hook, Brooklyn is pretty remote and desolate (although it's changing) so one location in Manhattan is basically as close as another (it might take an additional 10-15 minutes more to get there than from downtown near Wall St/WTC.)
