Carnival Hub

Just got off the Liberty this morning and we loved the Hub app!  I liked being able to "favorite" different things going on and would get a reminder 15 minutes before.  We also bought the chat feature.  We never had an issue with messages being delayed that I'm aware of (never logged out of it).  It was wonderful to let the kids be able to venture on their own on the ship some and not have to go looking for them every time I wanted to check on them or if they had a question.

Their FAQ's say it's only available on "select ships," but they don't list the ships. With the Sunrise being "new," I would think it's available, but that's just a guess. They recently introduced support for Netflix on the Sunrise, along with Vista & Horizon, so it seems to have the upgraded wifi service that the two newest ships have. That makes me think the Hub app can be used to its fullest potential, too. Again, just a guess. I don't know if a Carnival customer service rep. could answer that question or not. As is often the case, you could get more than one answer from different reps.

When it alerts you that your table's ready, does it use the phones notifications (sounds/vibration)? Or do you have to check the app to see the alert?

Thank you for trying to answer my question.  I just read on another thread that the check in feature IS available on the Sunrise.  I'm very excited about this!

I've used the chat feature on Holland America App recently, I don't know if it's the same system Carnival uses since both companies are owned by Carnival.

The chat feature was a little glitchy, sometimes a text would continuously show as unread, and it was hard to delete them, but they did come through.

The big problem for us was there was no notification when a text came in. Even when we kept logged in, there was no beep, chime, nothing. We had to actually take the phone out and check it from time to time, and see if any texts were posted. They did come through, we just didn't know it unless we looked.

To have a chat or text type app that doesn't have any notification sound really defeats the primary purpose of the app. I've got lots of kids and it was impossible to get responses from them because they didn't even know I had texted. Every app in the world will drive you crazy with notifications if you let it. This poor app didn't even know how to do it.

Can anyone who's used the Carnival Hub app, tell me if the Hub app actually gives a sound notification when a text comes in.

Thanks!

On the Holland America App, we didn't get any sound notifications at all, whether the app was open and you were sitting there looking at it when the text came in, or if it was running in the background.

I have android, my kids iPhones, alerted on neither.

I'm looking forward to hearing what experience any Carnival users have had about the phone actually giving a sound notification when a text has comes in on the Hub app.

In order to get the alerts and the texts do you have to have the app open on the screen or can you have it running in the background.  I use iPhone   Thanks

I haven't used the chat feature since we always use iMessage, but from everything I've read about it on the forum, it will alert you via sound. But how well it worked varies greatly. From those who never had a problem receiving new messages to those who say they'd get some of their messages an hour later. I think there's a lot of factors at play. The quality of that particular ship's wifi, your location on the ship (sender or receiver), amount of wifi traffic at any given time. I would hope that the ships with the upgraded wifi service, especially Vista & Horizon, handle the chat feature better. For best results, some say leave the app open, others say to simply leave it running in the background. Whichever one works best, the consensus is to not close the app.

Yeah, the good news is the app is here, which hopefully means it'll continuously get better, I'd be very surprised if it didn't.

Thanks Organized, that's a good recap, and all true.

Aside from whether the messages are late, the question I'm wondering about is, are people getting sound notifications on their phones when a text does come in?

That didn't happen on Holland America.

-You definitely cannot check into ATD from the HUB on all ships (yet)

-Pizza is easy to order and worked out really nicely for us on the Dream in Feb ( will report back on Valor in a couple weeks). After you do the order, you can also add a photo of yourself which can be helpful.

- I loved being able to download photos without going to Pixels

- I love the feature where you can mark your favorite activities and then the app reminds you when they are coming up.

It sounds like you weren’t able to check in to YTD on the Dream?

Last April, on the Dream, I ran into problems with scheduling for Trivia and such at the wrong time. Also, the Dinner menus were missing the entre page every day.

So, keep that paper copy of the Fun Times handy!

Did you have ATD and could you use the Hub to check in on the Dream?  Also did you use the text? We are on the Dream this summer and my husband and I always seem to get separated in the casino, being able to text each other would be nice instead of wandering around looking for each other:).

4. Deck plans

5. See your account balance

6. Find food

You can download app and use the cruise countdown clock.

And the $5 per device is for the entire cruise.  I don't believe it works off the ship.

On Carnival's website, you can see all the things the Hub can do, before and during the cruise.  I recommend downloading it before you get on the ship.

7. Listing of all activities and you can "Like" them and get reminders.

It will not work off the ship.  Not intended for that.  You need to be on Carnival WIFI.

DEFINITELY download it BEFORE going on the ship.  The Guest Service line on Day 1 is full of people trying to figure out how to install it without internet. (HINT: Connect to Carnival wifi and You open your browser and go to carnival.com)
