How do you know if you've been offered an upgrade?

Thanks for your service Corby!

There's a small but vocal portion of the population that doesn't understand the value of the thin blue line, that holds things together for the rest of us. People don't seem to realize a highly advanced civilization like ours, which offers benefits to everyone, beyond the wildest dreams of generations before us, is very fragile.

An angry mob can burn down what took hundreds of years to create in one afternoon.

You guys are us, you represent law and order, without which, welcome to the stone age. The crazy loudmouths are so stupid, it never evens dawns on them that when they attack our police, the danger they are flirting with for all of us.

We've been on 9 Carnival cruises and we've gotten an upgrade call/email on every cruise since our second. We just upgraded from a standard interior to an ocean view for $112 on our upcoming Glory cruise a couple weeks ago. From what I understand it's completely random.

A lot has to do with where you booked originally and what the demand is.  If you already booked a suite, there's no way to upgrade from that.  Lido, Spa and Panorama decks are usually booked by people that want to be there so they know it's useless to try to get them to move.  For our last cruise, we had the Panorama (Deck 11) on the Horizon.  We were offered a suite for $60 less than what we could have booked it for originally.  We turned it down because that deck is where we wanted to be.  Besides that, the suite was a mini suite that wasn't that much bigger than the regular balcony cabin that we booked.

If you ever get offered an upsell, before accepting it, check to see how much of a deal it really is.  Often the upsell is putting you in an unwanted area like under the galley or over a nightclub.  How much of a discount are you  really getting?
