RCCL stock?

I am thinking of buying a 100 shares of RCCL stock in order to get a little discount on the cruising I do on Celebrity and who knows maybe I will try RCCL too. I have a 14 day cruise booked for January 2007. If I bought them now and sent RCCL prove of purchase would I get a reduction on my final payment of $250? I understand that every May the shareholders vote on whether or not to continue this discount program. It would seem like a win win situation to me.

The stock would have to be bought and the cruise BOOKED by the May date and you would get the onboard credits even if the deal isn't renewed. It probably will, but even so, it's on cruises BOOKED by then. You could buy your stock and book 20 cruises and get the credits.

Note it is not a 'discount' but a credit on your account which usually shows up on the third or fourth day.

I thought Hugh swore off cruises and you were going to go land?

I can't remember if I got my stock before or after I booked but I do know that I sent proof of ownership a couple of months after I booked the cruise and got the cabin credit (not a reduction in the fare). When you send them the proof of ownership, a lot of the statements don't have on it when you bought it and if it did, you can black that out like you do other pertinent information on the statement they don't need to know like other stock ownership, account number, etc.

Thank you for the stock information everyone.

Tuggers, Hugh is looking at a land vacation in early summer or late spring. In fact he got Joe all excited over the prospect too. He has his eye on an all inclusive in Paradise Island. As for booking cruises we booked the Summit BEFORE the Opera fiasco which really soured him. I am sure he will mellow as the memory fades, LOL!

I have the stock and do not think it matters when you book. I normally wait until a couple of month before the cruise, put all the information in a letter to RCCL and then mail it certified. I have used it about three times already and have not had a problem. I take all my documentation with me just in case, but have not needed it. I just sent in the information for the March cruise and it will be one of the things I check on when things settle down at the guest relations desk. I also look at it as a profit on the stock, one that I do not have to pay taxes on.

I have had a cruise booked since last year - we leave on 2/5/06 - but just bought the stock recently. I just faxed the copy of my account showing the ownership of the stock directly to RCL at (305) 539-4645. It was taken care of immediately.

I have the Shareholder Benefit form downloaded from RCCL investor website which has printed on it (downloaded last month):

This benefit is offered exclusively to shareholders that directly own a minimum of 100 shares of Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. as of April 15, 2005.

If they follow their own rule, if you buy RCCL stock NOW, it does not meet the date set but MIGHT apply to future year if they renew this benefit. At very least, call them before you buy stock if your objective is to apply for credt on trip later this year.:D

Jean, I'm sure you'll have him eating out of your hand! As to getting Joe excited about land, that wasn't too hard since he was already bugging me about being cruised out before Opera! I will keep an eye out for land values since I just may have to let him have his land vacation to get it out of his system. On the other hand, you would think he would have figured out by now that his favorite all inclusives are overpriced unless we change our drinking habits! Either case, we are doing nothing until the extra lbs. from Galaxy and Opera are gone!

RCI did away with the April 2005 stock ownership deadline proviso. I bought stock last September, and have emailed scanned copies of my statement a week before my cruise on the three cruises that I have taken thus far using the credit. In each case, I requested an email acknowledging receipt and got it. Sure enough, the $200 appeared immediately in my shipboard account when I checked my account on the interactive TV channel.

You do have to BOOK your cruise before May 6, 2006 in order to receive this benefit, but those cruises can be taken after that date, so long as they are booked BY that date. I plan on taking a hard look at 2007 and booking a few while on my CENTURY transatlantic in April, well within the deadline for booking.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for an extension of the benefit; it's been a great deal, and I've already been able to take advantage of $600 in shipboard credit in an eight month period which is as good as cash. Can't beat it -- and it isn't a taxable earning. A win-win, for sure.

Cheers,

:) Hi,

The shipboard credit works on ONE credit per shareholder/ cruise locator number. If your file has more than one cabin, you still get one credit.

A way around that; both Mr and Mrs buy stocks in a case like that, and each books one cabin, then each gets the SBC $$$...works wonders if you have a family of 4 or 5 sailing the same cruise.

We bought our stock Dec'05, cruise booked a year before, but sailing is 2ns Apr'06 (Infinity).Faxed the info on their form 27th Dec to RCL,,,, SBC already noted in our file with X on 28th December. Work well, and as advertised. Already got the dividend announced in December.

( Now, if only the stock can go back to the 48..00/share level by June, we'll be laughing.....).

Happy $ailing.

Obviously, it's down these past weeks due to all the negative attention hyped on RCL by cable news that delights on keeping the stories about persons mysteriously lost at sea alive. The CEO and other employees at RCL have spent considerable energies over the past several weeks attempting to address and drown out much of the negative publicity, but it hasn't worked as well as I'm sure they'd hoped it might.

The markets never like bad publicity -- most especially when it gets dragged out for weeks and the threat of congressional oversight is looming......

Wait til oil prices ease up a bit and RCL buys a ton of futures...

The stock will rise again. I doubt the TV shows or newpaper articles did a bit of damage to RCL.

14 million people cruise each year and in 5 years maybe 14 people disappeared.

Safer than driving a car in my opinion.

In the long term, I fully agree. In the short term, I disagree. RCL has needed to expend considerable resources in the last few months defending their side of the story and fending off what can only be described as too much bad press. The only lingering issue that could come out of this would be increased governmental oversight which would be most unwelcomed by RCL.

All that said, my suspicion is that this will all blow over in the weeks to come and as spring approaches, fuel costs are likely to begin falling. All these factors should help RCL stock price.

Just my $00.02!

Lets Pray on that Bro..

My entire net worth is hinged to RCL.. my 100 shares... If it goes down anymore,,, there goes my cruising days!! I may have to get a day job again and that would be foreign to me after 2 years of bliss...

Just joshing with ya Scott..

Only time will tell,, but the Media sure makes a federal case out of this ,, was it 4 or 5 or 11.. people missing and one female sexually abused or touched or compromised,, not sure.

How about some big stories on folks getting hit by lightening?? I bet more folks win the lotto and get hit by lightening BY FAR,, then get murdered or lost on a cruise. Figure the odds on lotto america 27 million to one and there are at least 30 winners a yr.. of course more play the lotto then cruise, but my point is,,,, IT's VERY SAFE ON CRUISE SHIPS!! cruisers just need to use common sense. If you are drunk dont walk too near the edge and dont temp fate. And be very careful picking when meeting new friends on board,,esp single females traveling ALONE.
