OWNERS SUITE - Bait and Switch rates... aka>> What the market will bear!!

Well, Tuesday of this week I was told by xxxxxxxx xxxxxxxx in the CARNIVAL RESERVATIONS ADMINISTRATION DEPARTMENT (1-800-xxx-xxxx) that I could book the Owners Suite (Penthouse) on the Sensation July 1st for $300 more per person than the CAT 12 rate currently $951.05, and thus the suite rate would be $1251.05 each... They informed me that the $300 increase over the CAT 12 is standard for 5 day and under, while an extra $500 is required for 7 day sailings. I figured.. OK, bite the bullet and try it once... hey, maybe the Casino would make up the difference to me... RIGHT..

 

So I called him back today to book the room - Yes, they still have "Penthouse #1" available.. he took all the standard info from me. Then he said that it would be $1701.05 per person (THIS IS A FOUR DAY CRUISE). I said WHOA!!! At this point I thought - OK, perhaps the CAT 12 rate has risen $450 per person in the last 2 days... it happens.. So I asked him what the current CAT 12 rate was.. "$951.05" he said... I reminded him that he had told me the upgrade would be $300 over that rate. He indicated that $300 was correct.. but then started to explain that when he entered the FARE CODE that it came up with $1700 (give or take a few cents...). So, we went back and forth a few times (politely of course). I asked him to check with xxxxxx xxxxxx, who is evidently the big cheese in that dept, all the people in that dept check with her if there are ISSUES.. anyway >> NO DEAL...

 

Hey, perhaps that is their way of getting back the $750+ they refunded me on Monday (see post: http://messages.cruisecritic.com/2/OpenTopic?a=tpc&s=927093444&f=969097554&m=285105621 )

 

OK, so back to EARTH... I will sail in a 4A... LOL... that will "show them"

Tom, do you get a different rate by CALLING them, as opposed to going to the website? I keep getting the same price for cat12 on the website - $1129.

I see that you live in FL. Does that make a difference? I have moved to Savannah, but still have my FL driver's license. Any suggestions??

Oh, also, my mother originally booked this cruise, and she's in Alabama, so when they ask for your departure city on the site, is THAT why I'm getting that price? Do I have to look up Alabama's price?
