Any old Dolphin/Premier employees around?

Recommended Posts

I worked on the (mighty) Dolphin IV from 92-93. I was in the gift shop. Most memorable ship that I ever worked on.

I was on the Oceanbreeze for three months or so in 93, but was transferred to the Crown Jewel due to a disagreement with the staff captain (missed the ship in Cartagena with a waitress that he fancied).

Anybody on either ship during that time....?

Hi Dave,

I am a previous DCL/MCL and RCCL purser. Looking to find other employees/entertainers from 1989-1993. Also looking to find specific info on Kostas Galiatsatos (Captain on Dolphin and Majesty.)

Amy, I got my dates wrong with Dave. I was in the gift shop on the mighty Dolphin IV from the fall of 1993-the spring of 1994. I am trying to remember the pursers onboard then....Carmen (from Colombia), Ellen (Peru), and another girl from Egypt. Ring a bell?

Yes, I actually worked a couple of cruises with Tom. Hell of a nice guy...very easygoing, but the crowd always love dhim. An interesting fact about Tom, is that he was a second generation CD, as father was one before him.

Dave

There was a Tom Dentino on Dolphin back in 79-81 area, he would be about 56 now. do you think this is the same person / Dad of Tom?

did he retire?

Hi Everyone:

I worked for Dolphin/Majesty Cruise Line from July1991-Aug. 1996, as Chief Purser. I started on the Seabreeze then went to the Dolphin IV then I brought the Royal Majesty over from Finland. I finished on the Islandbreeze then work one summer for Premier on the Seabreeze. I worked with Tom Dentino and yes he would be about 56. The last time I saw Tom was at his wedding to Susan. I was really sad to hear that Captain Galiatasatos had passed away in 2004. As I read all the posts I see so many names of people I worked with- Gil Seville, Dave Soreff, The Twins, I was just listening to Robert and Mandy's CD last week. It sure does bring back a lot of great memories and fabulous life experiences.

Our very 1st cruise was on the Dolphin, at the time the ONLY ship of Dolphin cruise line - this was mid 1980's. We loved that line! Had delightful dinners with three captains on the Dolphin!

Were on a 1992 New Year's cruise on the OceanBreeze starting in Aruba. Our chartered plane was VERY late getting to Aruba - the midnight buffet was under way whwn we got on board. We had a 4:30 BREAKFAST as we were to leave the ship at 5:30AM!!! Got to airport, plane's engines weren't even going, no air conditioning. Finally took off around 9AM!!!! Never saw Aruba in the daylight. Did have a great cruise into Panama Canal and San Blas islands.

On the Dolphin I remember was it Oswald? He wiped all the chaises everyday, had been on her for years. Our 1st two cruises on her Ronald MacDonald (no kidding!) entertained in the lounge. He then became the cruise director. Last heard he got married and was the recreation director at a hotel on Paradise Island.

Remember when the ships had soccer teams and played each other in Nassau? Or crews had lifeboat races in port? Good ole days!

When we discovered she was still sailing as the Dolphin for Cape Canaveral Cruise Lines., we sailed her again, twice. (The only ship they ever had.) We didn't know what we would do for the Millenium, so called Cape Caranveral cruises and booked on the Dolphin leaving the NEXT day! (Before 911)

This was fantastic cruise! Spend New Year's Eve AT Mallory Sq.

Does anyoe know where Papi Penna is? He played the piano in the dining room and we ate with his delightful wife and Francesca who was back in the salon for a vacationing person. We then were on her last 4 day cruise. She bellowed smoke and soot for many years. Heard it was $1,000,000+++ more than they had to fix her.

When SeaBreeze sank it was a local news story for us on NC coast. Watched as crew member was pulled up off the deck by the pool I swam in the year before.

Sorry to learn NCL's Majesty, that WAS Dolphin's Royal Majesty, is leaving NCL. She is 1300 passengeses and a delight to sail on and only NCL ship we like! Really miss the smaller ships!

I remember you very well. I'm Carlos Ortega, who used to be the Director of Passenger Traffic at the corporate office. I also worked ocassionally at the pier for embarkation as the cashier.

I am still in touch with several ex-DCL/MCL employees (shoreside and onboard). I just located Sarah Perez on Facebook and I stay in touch with Claudine Yehia, George Delagrammatikas, Sammi Baker and others.

If you have Facebook, please look for my profile (Carlos Ortega - under Miami group). We have a group called Dolphin and Majesty Cruise Lines where you will see others you will know including Dave Soroff.

Hope to hear back from you soon.

To all of you who worked on the Seabreeze 92-94 my wife and I would like to say THANK YOU. It's because of the great experience that you people provided us that we are still cruising today. The cabins were small and we didn't have balconies, MUTS or Cyber Cafe's. What we had was a great crew and great food (Oh the Midnight Buffets). Some of the little things like the wine steward from Trinidad trying to say the names of the French wines with his heavy accent. The cabin steward who would ask me everytime he saw in the morning if the Missy was up yet and so many other things are what made these great memories.

I sure miss that ship:( .

Thank You again from a gratful couple.

My husband and I are both ex crew members, he worked for Dolphin and Premier before joining me on RCI. He was definitely crew during that time, say 1996-1997, he was a DJ/Cruise Staff, his name was Jason McDaniel.

Sound familiar at all?

If I remember correctly there were four ships in the Dolphin Line. The

IslandBreeze, Dolphin IV, SeaBreeze and the OceanBreeze. I know the SeaBreeze did the East and West Carribean and the OceanBreeze did the Southern when we sailed on them. Here is a link to pictures of the Dolphin ships. I really liked the SeaBreeze and hated when I saw the footage of sinking.:(

Tony Tsakiris - he was an electrician...we met when he was on the Dolphin in 81 or 82...then during the next 12 years, he was on the Dolphin several times, Royal Majesty and Ocean Breeze.....last I saw him was on the Ocean Breeze in 94.

I am 99% sure that I know exactly who Tony is. He was always pretty cool - much, much nicer than most of the other Greek officers. The last time I talked to him was during a staff boat drill in Arubua....we were joking about some of said officers, and how nice of a run The Oceanbreeze had.

He was a good person....and from what you are describing, sounds like you did meet him. :) He loved the ship - just always had loads of work to do maintaining it. Towards the end of its run, they were not putting any money into the ship. It was harder when he wound up in Aruba vs. Miami, so I used to fly down and catch up with the ship on the days when it was in Aruba and he was not working. Nice memories.

Where are you now?

Where are you now?

I live in Charlotte. After four + years and several contracts, I met my wife on my last ship (Carnival's Tropicale). She worked in the casino, and we both decided to make a start together on land. We have not looked back - our 11-year anniversary was last September.

And you?

The relationship finally ended because I kept moving with the airlines ...and he kept moving with the ships. (just usually not in the same places) Shortly after, I was moved to Chicago for a while and then back down to Miami. Met my future husband who was also with the airlines and wound up in San Francisco and then we both ended up back in Chicago. We recently left the industry (yahoo!) and we are celebrating our 10 year anniversary next week. :)

Those were wonderful years with some great memories. I have no idea where Tony ended up - after his last contract was finished on the Ocean Breeze, he said he would try to stay in Greece. Just hope everything turned out well for him.
