TEGL Posted July 15, 2019 #1 Share Posted July 15, 2019 Were staying for 2 nights post-cruise and have a few different AirBnB were looking at but they are all in different locations of the island. Which area of the island tends to have the best beaches?
Rare crewsweeper Posted July 15, 2019 #2 Share Posted July 15, 2019 IMO, Isla Verde beaches. Also close to airport. Then maybe Condado.
alfaeric Posted July 15, 2019 #3 Share Posted July 15, 2019 What's the definition of "best beach"? If you want to surf, Ricon on the west coast. If you want to snorkel, we've really liked Gilligans Island near Guanica. Although, the best beaches we've ever seen were on Culebra. And the beaches at Luquillo are pretty amazing.

Pinones, which is just east of Isla Verde. We had lunch there after dropping my parents off at the airport many years ago- and you can see them all take off. Or even further east near Luquillo Beach- there's a bunch there, too. Edited July 18, 2019 by alfaeric
Rare crewsweeper Posted July 18, 2019 #6 Share Posted July 18, 2019 There are a number of restaurants around El Alambique and Pinegrove beaches in Isla Verde. As I recall, and alfaeric can certainly correct me, the beach in the Balneario area (eastern end of airport) has a number of food kiosks around. Good local street food. Big locals beach, very clean, lifeguards etc.
Stinger-pr Posted August 23, 2019 #7 Share Posted August 23, 2019 If you want a combination of good beach and food nearby, go for the Isla Verde area. The beach is the best in the metro area and there are all kinds of restaurants around from fast food to very expensive places. As mentioned before, Piñones is about 7 minutes from Isla Verde, just behind the airport. Food is mainly local with everything from seafood to deep-fried goodies, meat or chicken kabobs cooked on big open grills, etc. Be sure to try the local signature dish, Mofongo (fried green plantains, mashed and mixed with garlic and butter), sometimes stuffed with your choice of meat. Condado is more trendy with lots of more "formal" restaurants but the beach has much more surf and can sometimes have a mean undertow in areas.
