Dan83 Posted July 15, 2019 #1 Share Posted July 15, 2019 Staying a night after cruise saves us almost $900 airfare. That more than covers a decent hotel and some sightseeing. And an extra day on vacation, definitely a no-brainer. What are some options for things to do? Family of 4 with two young children. We always like the beach, but after a port intensive cruise, we may have already had our fill of beach time.
OHRiverRats Posted July 15, 2019 #2 Share Posted July 15, 2019 You can easily spend a day exploring Old San Juan and the forts. We stored our luggage at Barrachina and had a delicious lunch there before heading to our Airbnb that evening. Isla Verde is a beautiful beach to relax on once you've had enough walking.
alfaeric Posted July 15, 2019 #3 Share Posted July 15, 2019 If your hotel allows you to drop your luggage off, I'd suggest heading out to the rain forest, and then come back to Old San Juan for the evening. OR somehow (taxi to airport, or taxi to close hotel) pick up a rental car, and go someplace else on the island- perhaps say in Rio Grande, so that you are close to the bio-bay in the north east.

Do you mind me asking what an appropriate tip amount is nowadays to store your luggage at Barrachina for a few hours? Thanks!
OHRiverRats Posted August 13, 2019 #5 Share Posted August 13, 2019 I would treat it like tipping a taxi driver or porter for handling your luggage. I think we gave him $2 per bag.

With the new security line, it's much like any other airport in the US. The only addition is the USDA inspection which is really fast. So maybe add 5-10 min to your normal time leaving home.
