Tours of Gibraltar?

Recommended Posts

We have booked a cruise with HAL Amsterdam - Rome September 2020 with a stop at Gibraltar.

When I look at the ships tours offered (early I know) they don’t seem have a tour covering all/most of the places of interest.

I would be grateful for information on good private tours.

There are vans & taxis at the cruise terminal which offer tours of the Upper Rock. The taxi marshal will put you in a van (up to 8 passengers) or taxi with others from your ship. Last I heard it cost £25 / €22 per person. They've been doing it for years & have it down to a fine art - as long at each stop as most folk like, the tour lasts about 1.5 to 2 hrs & you have the choice of being taken back to the ship or, as most folk do, being dropped in the town at Casemates Square, bottom of Main Street. You can then explore the town - small & easily walkable, shops, cafes, pubs, minor sights, no need for a "town tour". The walk back to the ship is simple & level, takes 20 - 25 minutes.

The  tour is the same as the "standard Rock tour" on this list

If you want a more extensive tour you'd need to get a group together & book a van.

including, buried in one of those threads, a recommendation of a private van operator. Had a quick hunt for it - then decided "your cruise - so I'll leave you to hunt for it " :classic_wink:

We used Gibraltar Rock Tours,  Contact John Lopez at info@gibraltar-rock-tours.com.  He gave us an all day tour of all the highlights and as well as taking us to the Siege Tunnels, we got to see Eisenhower's Bunker and the Ops Room inside the base of the mountain.  Highly recommend this tour operator.
