Raxter54 Posted July 27, 2019 #1 Share Posted July 27, 2019 Well, we were notified yesterday that our Feb 16 cruise on the Allure will be going to San Juan instead of St Thomas. A little disappointed, but we've never been to either port, so we still get to experience something new. We booked originally because we've never been on an Oasis class ship before, so we still have that going for us 🙂 But, with only 6 hours in port, we will probably not be doing an excursion. So, for those that have been to San Juan before, what is there to do near the port? I know the fort is close by, which I will probably be interested in. Is there shopping close by? Restaurants? Are there taxis available to go to other parts of the town? Any info you could give would be appreciated 🙂
Rare crewsweeper Posted July 27, 2019 #2 Share Posted July 27, 2019 Shopping and historical sites in OSJ along with great restaurants and bars are very close to port. Google a walking tour of OSJ and get a map. See threads here for local restaurants.
OHRiverRats Posted July 27, 2019 #3 Share Posted July 27, 2019 Don't be disappointed. San juan is a wonderful port. So much to see in Old San Juan. Take the Paseo de la Princesa from the port to El Morro. Explore the forts and come back through the town. So much history to see. Enjoy a Pina Colada at Barrachina......Oops, you only have 6 hours. Make sure you get back to the ship on time. Enjoy your cruise!

marysb Posted February 2, 2020 #5 Share Posted February 2, 2020 San Juan is one of our favourite ports. We always just wander around the old city. So much character and history. It is a beautiful port. Here are some photos to inspire you 🙂 Enjoy! Stop at Barrachina for a Pina Colada (they were invented there) or some traditional food such as Mofongo Or walk over to one of the forts

sydbarrett Posted February 3, 2020 #7 Share Posted February 3, 2020 LOVED our day in San Juan! Very walkable if you are docking in OSJ. It is very European and there are some good outlets if you are so inclined! I'm going back for a whole week and can't wait 🙂
