PelicanBill Posted July 29, 2019 #1 Share Posted July 29, 2019 Expected to become a strong hurricane and then fall back to tropical storm. Can expect rough water and surf on the south half of the Big Island. Bears watching until passing safely south of all the islands.
PelicanBill Posted July 30, 2019 Author #2 Share Posted July 30, 2019 Things still look the same for this storm. I noted CNN coverage of this stated this is "heading toward Hawaii." Hate to see when they aren't clear and it looks like they are trying to generate viewer numbers rather than be accurate. It's still looking to pass well south of Hawaii. PelicanBill Posted July 30, 2019 Author #3 Share Posted July 30, 2019 Despite the alarmist reporting I saw on the NBC Nightly News, Erick is still forecast to pass well south of Hawaii bringing only some moderately windy and rainy weather with high surf. Flossie coming in behind has a path that is a bigger concern and I will start a new thread for it.
Daisyloo Posted July 31, 2019 #4 Share Posted July 31, 2019 Is the hurricane season for Hawaii the same as for the Atlantic and Caribbean? June to November?

Yes - northern hemisphere is the June to November season.
PelicanBill Posted July 31, 2019 Author #6 Share Posted July 31, 2019 Erick is still on track to pass well south. Some wind and rain possible for the Big Island but just high surf (maybe some showers) on the south sides of most islands.

We're going to Hawaii in March and really don't want to be there with a hurricane!
