WE drove around the island to the desert and it was alright. very bumpy but nice to see. we then went to baby beach and it was rainning so we drove to Palm and there was no parking left. We then drove up the road and parked at the beach. You can rent the jeeps right at the dock. $85. you do not need the extra ins. if you want it, it is $20, you can see some of the pics at http://community.webshots.com/user/vlnovak. you will have to look trough the albums to find them. we used american rental

Two years ago we rented a jeep and drove all over the island. Basically we followed the trip outlined in Frommers and had a blast!!! It was a little intimidating to go off road up by the lighthouse, but it was fine. This was one of the best island experiences we've done. We just rented a car at the pier, but we got off the ship early. We plan on returning to Aruba next year and this time we'll reserve a jeep so that we won't be dissappointed.

Our ship sailed in at 1PM in the afternoon and the car rental booths at the pier were all deserted. We had a credit card guaranteed reservation with Top Drive but they were a no show. When I called them I was told they were at the pier in the morning and they now had no availability. So much for a credit card guarantee! They gave our vehicle to someone else from a ship that came to port earlier in the day. There were locals at the pier who were very helpful and they offered to drive us to the More-4-Less agency out by the airport where we rented a Jeep for $65. When we returned the vehicle, they drove us back to the pier.

Had the same experience as thlady. We arrived at 1 PM. The rental car booths were deserted, including the Topdrive booth (with whom we had a reservation). We called them from a small office just outside the port gate and got the runaround for an answer. Fortunately, a small vendor had a jeep available. Since it was after 1:30 he knocked off a few dollars and told us we could keep it until 8 PM. Very helpful and we were able to return it right to the port front gate! They go by EC Rent.

Bottom line: we had a great afternoon. Stopped at Eagle Beach, California lighthouse and the Natural Bridge - to see the collapse of the bridge was almost as interesting as seeing it before.
