Is there a younger crowd on Board? (20s)

Recommended Posts

Hello, I haven't been to this forum in almost 4 years since my last cruise. I had to register a new account beacuse I forgot my userid. Anyways.. I have been on two cruises in my life. The first one was the Carnival Sensation when i was in 10th grade. The second one was two years later on the Navigator of the Seas. It was the first year it set sail.

We'll now I'm in my 3rd year of college, 20 years old. I have my mind set on going on the Mariner of the Seas, I think its the May 14th sailing, just after exams. I would be going with my 2 buddies, so that makes 30 of us, we are all 20-21, single, etc.

Anyways.. I understand that Carnival suposedly has the younger crowd on their ships, but I don't want to be on a ship with a bunch of little brat kids. No offense to anyone.. ;0.

So my question is do you think the Mariner of the Seas would provide a decent crowd of people in their 20s? I really like RCCL thats why I have picked them out of anyone else, yes, its a little bit more expensive, and no mommy and daddy aren't paying for my trip, if thats what you are thinking. I just have a high class taste in fine vacations and good food.

And I recently read that if someone is over 21 in the cabin you can have 20 year olds come on the trip. I was also wondering if they changed any other rules.. Is the casino still 18+ And is 18-20 beer and wine only?

Thanks.. :)

You are correct that RCCL will serve beer and wine to those aged 18-20, but I believe that you need to have a parent sign a wavier giving permission for you to be served. I don't know if they have to be onboard or can sign it and you can bring it along with you. As long as someone is over 21 in your cabin you can have younger passengers in the cabin on RCCL. On Carnival one passenger has to be over 25 in each cabin if anyone is under 21 and 21 or over to drink. Good luck with planning your trip! :)

Sorry, there are absolutely NO 20-somethings on RCI. Just babies and 40+ year olds. :)

Naturally, I am just kidding. Good for you, setting yourself up for "the good life" at a young age. Most are heading to on an Apple Vacation to Barbados. LOL Frankly though, those were some of my best time.....heading to a week at the beach with 200 of my closest friends during breaks.

Actually, I was a sad sight on my last cruise (about to turn 40) with all the 20 year olds...the only demographic that was still awake at 4am. :)

Book the trip and have a great time!

I am 23 and my hubby is 25, on our last trip on navigator (we were 21 and 24 at the time) there was a large mix on ages, including at least a few hundred our age. We also avoid crowds of children (nothing personal), that is why we sail in the fall, when they are in school. Considering the date you are sailing you may run into a crowd of kids but for the most part from what I have seen they stay in the adventure ocean area. If you have ever been back there you understand why, that place is awesome espically from a kids point of view. I say stay open minded and have a blast!!

Thanks for all the tips.. yeah I am thinking about going end of May.. can't go the 14.. my sister is graduating college, and its mothers day hehe.

Yeah.. I would seriously rather go on a cruise than go to spring break to the bahamas and get wasted... i think cruises are more enjoyable.. plus the bahamas is a rip.. they want like 580 dollars for 4 nights.. no food included or anything.. id rather spend 1000 on a 7 night cruise personally :)

Too bad I didnt have school.. that Freedom of The seas cruise for only 900 at the end of september would look very promising.

All you 20 somethings will have no trouble finding other 20 somethings on a RCI cruise in the Caribbean. If you were going to Alaska, maybe slimmer possibility...but in May or August, no problems. Book your cruises and have fun!

Yeah. I am thinking of picking RCCL, i made another post about comparing them to carnival, i'll see what I get from that...

All i really want is to have a good trip, espically since im throwing down 1,000 dollars..thats a lot of money to a college student..

Also I know that Im not 21 and cant buy liquor on board.. do they ask for your ID when at the board.. or do you show your cruise card.. and does the cruise card have an age printed on it.. just wondering.. if i can show "other" forms of ID. ;)

They do ask for I.D. and they will punch a hole in your card showing that you are under 21. But I believe that you can have your parents sign a waiver for you to drink beer and wine, if they will do that.

The only card anyone cares about on board is your SeaPass. If you are under 18 there are two holes punched at the bottom of it, if you are 19-20 there is 1 hole. That is how they know your age. I know if you are 19-20 you can get beer and wine. I personally have never had to have a parent sign for it, but i have read others on here say that. I have bought hard liquior in port and never been carded (even at 17) and always brought it back on the ship. I put my bags through the Xray machine and never had any of it taken. I have also personally seen liquior served to a minor on one of our cruises ( i was 21 and she was 17) the bartender charged her seapass with the holes punched in it and served her anyways. We were with my hubby and her older brother.

I woould not risk any kind of *other ID* there are a few severlly bad things that could happen....they could catch you before you get on and refuse to allow you to board ($1,000+ down the drain) and possibly arrested also. Or even worse you could get caught with a fake ID in a forigen port. Do you really wanna spend the night in a mexican prison? Your best bet is drink in port (be careful not to get too drunk). Buy a couple of bottles in port and bring them back onto the ship with you. You have a 50/50 chance of getting them through.

I am in my 20s and Love RCCL. They say Carnival is the party line, but I have had just as much fun on RCCL than on any other line.

THe nice thing is that the staff really gets into stuff on RCCL, with several game shows to get involved in, as well as pool games. Just read your cruise compass (Daily newsletter) Every day, and you will find tons of stuff to do.

Also - REMEMBER to look at college calanders. If you go when College is in session, not as many people in the young 20's but if you go when colleges have time off, you will find a lot more.

Plus - Go for a voyager class ship, A LOT more to do!

Hey, thanks for pointing that out, I did not even notice that change...That will help us a lot on the freedom this fall!!
