MarcyLondon Posted August 11, 2019 #1 Share Posted August 11, 2019 We will be on Sirena's Vibrant Mediterranean Cruise June 2020. Would like to take a boat trip over to Capri. Oceania doesn't seem to organise a trip has anyone done it themselves and can give me some advice or some tour companies? Marcy
Jay23 Posted August 11, 2019 #2 Share Posted August 11, 2019 There is a ferry boat from Sorento that I have been on. It was very nice. It leaves from the same area as the ship's tender docks on. There were taxis waiting to take us to the top of the island where the town and shops and restaurants are It was some years ago and it wasn't a cruise; we were staying in Sorento . I don't think you have to have an organised tour really... Have you checked on line? J
TrulyBlonde Posted August 11, 2019 #3 Share Posted August 11, 2019 Easy to do and they have the ferry stand in Sorrento. One word of caution, when leaving Capri there are numerous ferries and you need to make sure you get the correct one and plan enough time to get back. It can get confusing. TERRIER1 Posted August 11, 2019 #4 Share Posted August 11, 2019 Amalfi/Positano are tender ports. If the ship can't tender then they usually go to Sorrento and sometimes Naples. There are lots of ferries that run from Sorrento. If you are in Amalfi/Positano then there are fewer. You can always take the bus to Sorrento and ferry over to Capri from there. neilbrunton Posted August 11, 2019 #5 Share Posted August 11, 2019 We took the ferry from Amalfi to Capri last month. Very easy, fairly frequent and approx €24 each way. Lovely way to see the stunning coastline. Wouldn’t recommend driving Amalfi to Sorrento as that roads are very crowded in the summer with lots of traffic jams. The timetable is at https://www.capri.net/en/ferry-schedule?from=amalfi&to=capri#
jeanine Posted August 12, 2019 #6 Share Posted August 12, 2019 There is a city bus from Amalfi to Positano maybe it goes on to Sorrento. Was very close to where we docked in Amalfi
neilbrunton Posted August 12, 2019 #7 Share Posted August 12, 2019 (edited) The land bus from Amalfi to Sorrento take 1hr 40 mins on a good day. In the summer when the roads are busy it can take longer. We tried it in July and it was overcrowded with people sitting on the floor and very hot. Use the water buses if you want enjoyable reliable transport. Edited August 12, 2019 by neilbrunton
sammiedawg Posted August 12, 2019 #8 Share Posted August 12, 2019 The ferry is easy to walk to from the cruise ship area in Sorrento and Naples, not sure about getting there from Amalfi. Everyone advises to buy round trip tickets and allow sufficient time to get back to the ship. Rick Steve’s guidebooks have precise instruction on how to quickly see all levels of Capri from the ferry landing site. We followed his precise directions, starting with buying a funicular ticket at ground level. At the second level you buy a bus ticket to get to the top and ride the chair lifts. Most of the ferry crowd runs to the Blue Lagoon launch area, we’ve never done this. I think Oceania will offer an excursion to Capri but you can DIY.
