Checked bags?

What does checked bags mean?

 

I am going on the April 6th cruise on the dawn and trying to learn all the tricks before i go!! I am reading up on bring booze on the boat.....

Just like at an airport checked bags are ones you do not carry on. The porter takes them, they are x-rayed, placed in a container, container is loaded on the ship, bags are taken out of container and placed outside your cabin.
