CedarHouseRanch Posted April 19, 2004 #1 Share Posted April 19, 2004 Why should I pay more for a room on the Empress Deck than one on the Main Deck of the Elation? If the rooms are the same size, why are the prices higher as the decks get higher? Tom
Cruising89143 Posted April 19, 2004 #2 Share Posted April 19, 2004 In one word "convenience". For most people the higher up you are..... the closer you are to the activities, lido deck, etc. The public decks are near the top on the Fantasy class ships. It just depends on the person. If you have no desire to be closer to those things then I would book the lowest deck available. Cotton Posted April 19, 2004 #3 Share Posted April 19, 2004 There are several sets of elevators, as well as stairs, on each deck, but I guess some folks just wanna be right there where the action is? I usually go for the lower decks, but I've never been on the lowest. The lower the deck, the less motion! Knights on the Beach Posted April 19, 2004 #4 Share Posted April 19, 2004 I won't pay more just to be on a higher deck, but I sure won't turn down a free upgrade either! We almost always book a category guarantee. We booked IS for our Glory cruise next month and have been upgraded to a 4G on the Panorama Deck. I am thrilled with the location, so much so that I took an assigned cabin on that deck rather than a guarantee for that category. I was afraid we might get upgraded to an outside cabin and lose our great location. Like I said, I won't pay more for the location, but I'll happily accept it when given to us for free! CruiseMark Posted April 19, 2004 #5 Share Posted April 19, 2004 For us, it was a question of bad knees and impatience with elevators. Being able to pop up one flight of stairs to many amanities was a big plus. momofmeg Posted April 22, 2004 #6 Share Posted April 22, 2004 We have been on 2 fanasty class ships. On Fascination in 2000 we were on the upper deck inside cabin. Last Dec. we were on the empress deck outside cabin. The cabins were the same size about 9 by 12 with a nice sized bathroom which was bigger then the bathroom in my cabin on Miracle a balcony cabin on empress deck. There were plenty of elevators on both Fascination and Inspiration so no biggie if I ride an extra deck or 2. Hubby and I already decided if we go back on one of these ships we would be happy with an inside cabin from main deck on up.(don't want the upper and lower berths on riveria) Carnival Tropicale 10/15/98 Sovereign of the Seas 11/22/99 Carnival Fascination 09/23/00 HAL Statendam 05/20/01 Sovereign of the Seas 11/08/01 Pacific Princess 09/29/02 Carnival Inspiration 12/14/03 Carnival Miracle 04/09/
dan40 Posted April 22, 2004 #7 Share Posted April 22, 2004 We wouldn't pay a cent more for a higher deck because the small extra convienence is just not important to us. I could see those with bad knees etc. would have a different outlook. This all started way back when ships were not air conditioned and were divided by classes. Third class was down low, crammed together in the heat. Second class was above them with a little more space. First class cabins were above the hull for the most part. Larger and open to the air. The ships were partitioned so that the lower classes could not mix with the higher classes. These days its only the convienence factor, there are no extra privledges afforded the higher decks. weswas Posted April 22, 2004 #9 Share Posted April 22, 2004 We also always book a gty!! We don't care where we are and waiting for an elevator is ok with us. dsclark Posted April 23, 2004 #10 Share Posted April 23, 2004 There are exceptions to everything, of course. I got a free upgrade to the panarama deck. I'll like the convenience of being able to access the pool area without using an elevator. However, I have cruised the Elation twice, with the first trip on the Empress and the second on the Riviera level (both with windows). Outside of the extra time for the elevators, there was no difference.

MrPete Posted April 23, 2004 #12 Share Posted April 23, 2004 It's not only the waiting on the elevator....it's the stopping on EVERY floor to pick up other pax, until you learn the secret bypass process. On the Fantasy class, everything is UPSTAIRS. On the newer ships, it's a split, so it doesn't matter. __ /7__/7__/7____ \:::::::::::::::::::/ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Miracle 7/10/04 NY to Bahamas and Port Canaveral Disney Wonder 3/04/04 Pride 7/16/03 Bermuda Legend 10/17/02 CTN Disney Wonder 9/15/02 Destiny 4/29/01 Southern Caribbean Victory 9/00 Canadian Maritimes Triumph 9/99 Canadian Maritimes Jubilee 4/98 Trans Pacific/Hawaii Imagination 4/97 Western Caribbean Imagination 4/96 Western Caribbean Fascination 4/95 Southern Caribbean Ecstasy 4/18/93 Eastern Caribbean Fantasy 9/25/90 Bahamas Jubilee 5/13/90 Mexican Riviera NCL Seaward 1/15/89 Western Caribbean Jubilee 4/24/88 Eastern Caribbean HONEYMOON

glrounds Posted April 25, 2004 #14 Share Posted April 25, 2004 I love the "cheap seats" down near the bilges on the Riviera Deck (probably sour grapes ). I've cruised the ELATION several times and always cruise SOLO so those cabins (185 sq ft)are just as roomy as on the upper decks inside. I almost always use the stairs so I get a workout all day long, can skip the gym for a week. Life is short - CRUISE NOW ! Gary
blyle Posted April 25, 2004 #15 Share Posted April 25, 2004 Just returned and I would not pay more for empress deck. The ship is very easy to get around no matter where you are. bethee Posted April 25, 2004 #16 Share Posted April 25, 2004 We have beeb ib the Elation 4 times and the cabins are the same so we always go GTY and have been upgraded most times but saw no difference from Riviera and Verandah except the travel time up and down stairs.
