emam Posted September 23, 2019 #1 Share Posted September 23, 2019 Following on from an earlier thread where another poster commented about the tonnage and size of ships. I have been looking at a deck plan website and copied some information with regards to the larger P&O ships. I can't verify how accurate their information is. Something I noticed though (according to this site) that the ships are getting longer but narrower. I was surprised that the beam of Britannia is narrower than Azura and Ventura. Iona's is less again. Ship Tons Speed Length Beam Cabins Crew Passengers Space Ratio Decks Azura 115055 22 951 159 1557 1226 3096-3737 31 18 Britannia 143730 22 1083 155 1836 1350 3645-4406 33 18 Iona 184700 n/a 1096 138 2610 n/a 5204-6264 29 18 Ventura 116017 21 956 159 1553 1226 3106-3727 31

Of course the main difference is in the number of passenger decks, which is how Iona manages to accommodate all the extra numbers, lets just hope that there is sufficient space in the entertainment decks to house everyone when it rains!
Denarius Posted September 23, 2019 #3 Share Posted September 23, 2019 (edited) Just as an interesting comparison, the "legendary" Queen Mary, in her day the biggest passenger liner in the world. Tons 81,237 Speed 28.5 knots Length 1,019 ft Beam 118ft Passengers 2,139 Crew 1,101 Nowadays she would be classed as a mid size ship!
