Is the coffee that bad on the ship that you need to buy Starbucks coffee on the ship? I mean, why pay extra for something that is included in the cruise.

  • Drip coffee: Yes, NCL coffee can be wretched. I find Starbucks's Pike Place Roast (aka their standard blend) pretty wretched too, but the light roasts are pretty good.
  • Espresso drinks: You have to pay extra anyway unless you have the Premium Plus beverage package. I get Chase Rewards points when loading my Starbucks card and Starbucks points when using those funds, so why not?

Regarding wifi, don't worry about it. Assuming your app is set up with your account and you have a card loaded, you do not need a wifi connection. The "scan" page in the app has a barcode for any Starbucks cards loaded and a QR code for any other payment types you've set up.
