A little tug problem this morning at San Francisco

On the Star this morning.  I was watching the tug help spin us around, then  went back inside only to miss this.  No one was hurt. The boat is checked out. We’ll see if we leave on schedule.

i couldn't look away, yet the sound of the tug crunching on the dock structure was cringe inducing.

 

i wonder how that happened, because isn't a harbor pilot in charge? i guess someone confused zig with zag  someone isn't have a good day.  eesh.

And to think the Star Princess is a little ship (compared to the more recent builds).  Interesting video.  San Francisco is a tough pier to leave from.  I remember 3 tugs straining against the Golden to keep here close to the dock as she released lines.  

 

I wonder (too) how badly damaged the other pier was.
