Conquest -- were the cabins/restaurants COLD?

I've heard that the cabins and the restaurants/lounges/theaters were COLD inside.

 

We are going over Labor Day in September, so it should be HOT outside. I am a person who HATES to be cold. Should I bring sweaters/wraps/jackets?

 

Please let me know what time of year you went.

I don't think it matters the time of year that you go. I think that ship is just chilly in general in the public areas. I would say that if you are prone to being cold take something to cover up with...or just do like me and go to Henris and boogie up a good sweat....it's definitely not cold in there....well I take that back..If you are just sitting and watching it is very chilly, so get up off that stool and do a jig!

I agree with MS QUEEN. My wife and I loved the fact that our cabin and public rooms aboard the Conquest were cool ( as opposed to other ships where we found them too be too warm ). However, others in our party thought they were a bit too cool. If you're the kind of person who is usually cold, dress in layers. If you're usually hot in most public places, you'll love the Conquest!

Yes, definately take a sweater, jacket, sweatshirt etc. . .

I'm always cold, so I usually bring a light sweater or jacket, just in case. Personally, I think most places crank the A/C too much..feels like a meat locker!

I thought that the temps in the public rooms were just fine. Not an issue! I never felt cold on this cruise.

Our cabin temp was fine. But the temp in the lounges and dining rooms was too cold for us. We were glad to have our sweaters and jackets.

Cinderellie, We will be on that trip with you!! We are from Montgomery, Alabama and will be with a party of 8. We have been on that ship twice the same time of year (cruise that week every year out of New Orleans) and we found it to be very comfortable. I always take a light jacket and a couple of shawls for dress up nights--if I ever felt cool at all, it may have been on formal nights when with spaghetti strap formalwear. But we slept like rocks on that ship!! I mean, took real bear naps!! I have read this complaint from others, but I tend to be cold natured and never found the ship uncomfortable at all. Enjoy! I agree with Taters,

 

Never once were we cold on this ship. We packed some long sleeve shirts and light jackets which were never used.

We were on the Conquest last June and froze in the evenings in the Theater. The clubs were not as cold, but sitting for the shows was pure torture. People resorted to wearing there Carnival Robes to the shows or bringing blankets. I don't remember the dining room being really cold, we were late seating in the Monet dining room. The casino was not real cold, but was kind of smelly - all those smokers came out in force. All in all the ship is beautiful. I can't wait to get back.

Hi Mary Ellen,

We were not blessed with children of our own but have many neices and nephews who we get to spend a lot of time with. We are always trying to talk family into joining us and bringing the kids, as Carnival offers such great kids programs. This trip is with 3 other couples--1 couple we have travelled with for years--the other 2 couples are first time cruisers--really looking forward to it for them! We have tried MANY of the excursions and really have enjoyed all of them. Our absolute favorite would be the stingray swim and your kids might enjoy that too. We are probably going to do that with our friends this year. Also, climbing Dunn River Falls in Jamaica is really something to see. It is not an easy climb but you can walk up the stairs built on the side if you don't want to climb the falls. Your kids would probably love both of those. We've gone down in the submarine in Grand Cayman and that was wonderful--sea turtles swimming by--wow--pretty amazing! We also love the snorkeling trips but don't enjoy the ones in Jamaica as much--not as pretty and the folks are just not as friendly and helpful as they are in Cozumel and Cayman. All in all, can't think of any excursion we've taken we have not enjoyed. I see you are seasoned cruisers so you will know what to do and really enjoy yourselves. Is the first time for the kids?

 

Oh, and it sounds like we should definitely come prepared to throw a wrap on if needed. Some say cold, some say not--whatever, a good time will be had by all!

Hey Sanermae - cruising same ship, same week also! If you don't mind me piggy backing - I have a question on the submarine. My brother who is traveling with us has some mobility problems and doesn't want to do the stingrays - and we did them on the Western last year... so I'm intrigued by the submarine - is this a semi-submersible? Did you book through Carnival once onboard? I think he would LOVE this! Any information appreciated. Thanks! (We currently have 7 adults ranging from 40 - 60 and one 13yo going on 30 in our group!)

Just now got my search to work and found your question about the submarine in Grand Cayman. You probably have all your answers by now, but if not, our experience was wonderful! THe sub went down a little over 100 feet. We were put in a boat off a pier and taken to the sub and climbed down into it. But I would think they would put your brother on either first or last and it would be no problem. It was an hour long which just absolutely flew by! I was a little afraid of being claustrophic, as it was tight quarters, but I was fine--too much awesome stuff to see to notice the tight quarters. Sea turtles just swam by, beautiful sea life all around. Each person had their own porthole to look out. It was an expensive tour (think around $75 pp) but we felt like it was worth every cent. We did book through the ship once on board. I have not checked out the carnival tour website but I'm sure there would be info available on it. I think you and your brother would have the time of your lives! Enjoy!

We were on th Conquest last July- when it was very hot and the public areas on the ship were very cold, so I would definately bring a few sweaters to keep warm with.

I heard how cruise ships were called floating refrigerators. After sailing Conquest - I KNOW WHY. Granted, it was Nov. and we were experiencing unseasonalby cool weather in the Caribbean, but still, it was ARCTIC temps on the ship, ESPECIALLY the show lounge! I couldn't go in there without bringing something to wrap around my legs. And if I wore sandals, my toes froze! Not all the areas were this bad, but please do yourself a favor and at the very least pack a small jacket or sweater.
