currencies in each port

Do you get each local currency for each port or is US $ used? We are taking the Panama cruise out of Galveston so our stops are Mexico, Panama, Costa Rica, Grand Cayman and Jamaica. I was wondering if I need to get the local currency for each of those stops or whether most places accept US currency. Thanks for your help.

Well, I can only talk about Jamaica, but when we were there last year we took U.S. money and everywhere took it. You can change money, but I was told that they prefer U.S. dollars. But when we went into a Burger King (I know, don't flame! My husband is a picky eater.) they gave us back our change in Jamaican currency.

I guess that I will speak for Mex and GC...you can use US$ - No problem!! Like iamlynn said, you may get the country's currency back in change. (Which can be fun if it is a small amount...a little souvenier of sorts) Just a tip: bring in smaller bills - avoiding getting change in the first place!! Plus...more often than not, those street vendors aren't giving you change anyway!!!

You can use US$$$ in all the Caribbean ports. It's not only accepted, it's preferred.

When in Mexico this year I got my bills change back in US, but the coins were Mexican. Most vendors prefer US $

We were in Aruba, Curacao, Costa Rica, and Mexico on our trip. Used only US$ and had no trouble. Great tips about small bills because you do often get change in local currency.
