Enjoying your review! Thanks for taking the time to post it. Did you ever find

out what was wrong with your original cabin? A relative of mine is thinking

of booking a solo cabin. Thanks.

Nope! But I did have a semi drunk investigative adventure one night with a friend to try and figure it out. Others from my sailing reported issues with the temperature of the cabins but that is all I have heard about.

Cruise Day 2:

I woke up and felt pretty decent despite all of the late night lemon drop shots that I repeatedly encouraged. Don’t worry, as someone who was in the service industry for 10 years I tipped the bartenders very nicely for my terrible request.

I rolled out of bed grateful for the extra hour of sleep and went straight to Starbucks to get a iced peach green tea, no lemonade and half the sugar syrup. One of my favorite drinks back home and they made it just as good as they do on land. I went in a baggy shirt and short sleeping shorts because I was feeling very #unbothered that morning. I knew I needed to shower but I wanted to make sure I could enjoy my Starbucks while getting ready.

It was actually quite beautiful looking outside but the waves were still insane. The motion was bothering me a bit, either that or the hangover but being so far forward on deck 11 was not the place to be in these waves.

I had to hustle to get ready to make the Meet and Greet that was being held at 11:00am in the Manhattan Room. The place was PACKED. They had plenty of staff there handing out little snacks and bubbly/mimosas. @thedougout had everything set up super effectively. On one part of the room they had people signing everyone up for the slot pull, the mystery gift exchange, he Veterans, and Farewell Dinner.

UNADJUSTEDNONRAW_thumb_44a5.thumb.jpg.0c441d378526508d4f56b4f1f86ad63a.jpg

All of the Officers were there and they all introduced themselves. Doug spent a few minutes going over the events and gave out the prizes from Cruise Critic and others. It was a really nice showing, however many people were feeling quite ill at this point.

UNADJUSTEDNONRAW_thumb_4400.thumb.jpg.d8f2f7de9c39e6d66e2c5377097a6560.jpg

After the Meet & Greet I decided to go to the gift shop to look for party patches. They weren’t selling them on this particular sailing, not sure if Encore will eventually carry them in the Caribbean. I did decided to get some seabands which I ended up wearing for the next few days and did not experience any sea sickness.

UNADJUSTEDNONRAW_thumb_45d4.thumb.jpg.d7363db1c71f37a5bc3f2b093aa536c0.jpg

I popped into the Garden Cafe for a quick bite. I wasn't feeling well and there was a lot of motion on this deck. I had some random snacks but ate painstakingly slow most because I had no appetite but was forcing myself to eat. I met a nice family from Utah who was sitting next to me. I loved all those one off conversations I had all week.

I also am not sure when NCL started putting these cards in the slots in rooms. Likely has been something that has been there for a while but I do not remember it on my trip last year on The Bliss. I thought it was nice to have this and I think is part of the reason I lost many fewer key cards than trips prior.

UNADJUSTEDNONRAW_thumb_4431.thumb.jpg.03facf6d5e60ebb73917cb6c873a735f.jpg

At 2pm that day we had the first and the "regular" slot pull. I was there early so I was recruited to help run one of the machines. I hope I never get asked to do that again because I was HORRIBLE luck. We had taken over two of the Wheel of Fortune machines near the players club and my machine was trash. I think we had over 40 people come to that machine and not ONE time did anyone get to spin the wheel. The other machine was better and in the end we all received 10$ back. The two top spinners got larger pots and one random person got the third largest pot. Norwegian had donated some wine I believe and we also did a random number generator to hand those out. All in all it was a fun time, I got really into it without realizing it until I heard people jokingly mock me saying "Not a winner but thanks for playing" or something like that 😉

After the slot pull concluded I decided that I was feeling much better – the casino is actually a great place to go when there is a lot of motion, you really barely feel it. You can always hang out at the Skyline bar if you don’t want to gamble. I wanted to use one of my dining credits while I was feeling like I had a real appetite. I bugged Aled to go with me but he was not wanting to go to Cagney’s just yet.

However another solo had mentioned earlier how she really wanted to go to Onda. I figured I would want to check it out so we made a plan to try and meet there as soon as it opened to see if they could squeeze us in.

I wanted to take a nap and relax in my room but the motion was just a bit too much for me so I decided to head down to the casino to kill some time before dinner. There was a 10$ blackjack table but no one was at it. Against my better judgement I sat down and lost 80$ before the server could even bring me my drink.

From there I decided to head over to the mojito bar, Sugarcane, to say hello to the world famous Chocolate Cowboy.

I had a drink there and then decided to head to Maltings so I could be closer to Onda and speak with the host before they opened.

Around 5pm I went by there and asked about the possibility of getting in. She told me that if I came at 5:30 she would get me in.

Around 5:15 I saw people queuing up and I got a bit nervous so I went over there and got in line. When I was at the front of the line the host who was now standing there told me that I would not be able to get in without a reservation. The woman who I spoke to before then came in and told her to seat us. I should have gotten her name because I was very gracious for her helping us to get in despite their busy schedule.

The food and service at Onda were excellent. They basically encourage you to order one thing from each course and it is SO much food. The person I was with luckily was eating ala carte so she only ordered a little and shared with me. Their burrata was AMAZING! The pizza was very good, my lobster pasta dish was excellent, the fish was just okay – but I was really stuffed. Since I did so poorly on eating my dinner I did not allow myself to have dessert.

The servers were also excellent at making sure my wine glass was never empty. Me and the Tempranillo that they have by the glass now have a love hate relationship.

Hey! Sorry I got distracted with getting dumped by a guy named Nick only to date another guy named Nick only for that to not work out either LOL. On a serious note I have been very busy at work and haven't had much time to relax. I'm spending the afternoon on the couch with some wine so I will try to crank a few days out.

One of my favorite parts about cruising is all of the different people you get to meet. Interesting or different walks of life, sometimes though you don’t always click. This was the mood of my dinner. However it was nice to be able to sort of gain some perspective about my life and appreciate what I have going on.

UNADJUSTEDNONRAW_thumb_454e.thumb.jpg.0f85dc9217e68528365a9ec46d03d1f3.jpg

After dinner I ended up in Q with some friends they had Camille Rae and the Rae Band playing all week. They were fantastic and all around great people the times I hung around them. Camille can SING!

***I can't figure out to load videos***

Q also has the Tempranillo so I kept those coming, and coming, and coming… I really started getting into the music and my feelings. I was there for about two hours or so and then I decided to head over to Social to really push it over the top.

I ran into Will, THE Will, the one notorious for doing shots. I decided to challenge him to shots and told him that I wasn’t afraid of him. This was a mistake, a mistake that would haunt me and my liver for the rest of the cruise. We did a shot with another new friend, Charlie. I believe we did lemon drop shots? Maybe they did Jager?

will.thumb.jpg.dda8dafc85b60d218929dcffe76f6ecd.jpg

All I know is that is when I did an Irish goodbye and left the Social. I would love to be able to see the NCL’s footage of me getting back to my room.

I woke up fully dressed on my covers feeling like absolute death. These are the times where traveling solo is really clutch. There was absolutely no way I was making it to the Cabin Crawl and the Bar Crawl scheduled for 2pm wasn’t looking good.

I was trying to will myself to get ready for the bar crawl. It was jungle cruise themed and I had put a lot of effort into my costume so I didn’t want to have to miss it. I showered and pulled myself together. I actually ended up being a little late so I just met with my group of friends who were at their first stop, District Brewhouse.

UNADJUSTEDNONRAW_thumb_43f1.thumb.jpg.cd2db3f1ccfb272de2ce1298ee5e0189.jpg

I grabbed a cider from the bar and tried to feel like a human again. Before I knew it (and before my drink was finished) we were marching to our next spot.

UNADJUSTEDNONRAW_thumb_4499.thumb.jpg.44570822e010cd1bd323a87e0fd3b1d8.jpg

To give  bit more information, this bar crawl was organized by a cruise critic member. They had everyone meet in the Manhattan Room and then people were divided into a number of different groups with different routes. Everyone went to four bars I believe and it ended at the bar in the Observation Lounge. The people planning the events worked with NCL so that way the bartenders weren’t totally taken off guard.

Our next spot was the Atrium Bar. Here they had some fruity drink prepped for us. It was green, had vodka, and was very surgery. This is where I first met the Lemur family. It was a whole family dressed in Lemurs onesie costumes. Apparently one of the family members actually trains lemurs. At this stop they allowed someone in their party to have vodka who isn’t normally supposed to drink vodka, more to come on this later.

UNADJUSTEDNONRAW_thumb_441f.thumb.jpg.ca21fd0954f776dfa2e7839a282ad92b.jpg

We sat at the Atrium bar and I tried to get my drink down. They also had a learn French class going on so it was basically an education experience at that point. By the time we left I was walking away now double fisting as I hadn’t even finished my drink from the first bar. The next bar we went to was the Mixx bar. This one is right in between Taste and Savor, two of the complimentary dinning venues. They were pouring some orange drink I believe at this one, I was doing a lot more talking than drinking at this point.

We ended up in the Observation Lounge with everyone else, I want to say they maybe had a blue drink there? I probably had the equivalent of two drinks the entire crawl. It was definitely a party up there by then. Some people were not happy with that though. It definitely got a bit loud in there. I hung out with the Lemurs some more and the one who trains lemurs actually helped to get someone else to stop talking to me by quizzing them on lemur trivia.

After the crawl myself and my friend Nancy were invited to play a game of Heads Up with the Lemur’s. For a reason I can’t remember we decided to go down to the Skyline bar in the casino. The game was HYSTERICAL. If you haven’t played it’s sort of like charades except you have the words on your phone on your head and everyone tries to act out or describe what is on the phone. It also films everyone while you do this and it was awesome. We did this until the Lemurs had to get ready for dinner. We all agreed to meet up later for some Cards Against Humanity.

Sorry for lack of pictures, it was a rough day!

When everyone dispersed I decided to probably should find some food as well. I decided to check out the Manhattan Room for the first time. My hangover and the intense motion the ship was still having made this a questionable choice. I hadn’t felt like going to my cabin so I was still wearing the cheetah face make up and the cheetah print shorts. I was not turned away for a dress code violation though.

UNADJUSTEDNONRAW_thumb_4441.thumb.jpg.9870e0494f83ea74f62ab80539daedfd.jpg

^this Bruschetta thing was yummy

UNADJUSTEDNONRAW_thumb_44a7.thumb.jpg.f3de1fc281e36829dd8171d69ceeec70.jpg

The menu looked alright so I ordered a few things. Since I was dining alone I felt like I was getting very fast service. The pictures I took of my appetizers and my main were only about 15 minutes apart. However the motion and the hangover were too much for me so after a few bites of food I decided to just call it and head back to my room to rest before the Choir Of Man show.

I had made my reservations for both shows as soon as I got onboard. I had been looking forward to Choir of Man for months. I even followed majority of the cast on Instagram leading up to the cruise so I felt like I almost knew them. I dozed off for a few minutes and ended up needing to run down to the show. Still in my cheetah outfit LOL.

UNADJUSTEDNONRAW_thumb_4438.thumb.jpg.5d0b1196923f8eacf5d0e942f3c0ae2d.jpg

Luckily I had friends sitting up near the front who had an extra seat for me. The show was great! I don’t watch a lot of shows on cruises but I do have some appreciation for the theater. I left early during Jersey Boys but LOVED Priscilla when I was on Epic.

After the show a few of us decided to head to Social to check out the Silent Disco. The way they do it on Encore is each quadrant of the room is a different decade so you move around the room depending on what you want to hear. It was pretty cool for a few minutes but eventually I got bored and my friend and I needed to meet the Lemurs for Cards Against Humanity.

UNADJUSTEDNONRAW_thumb_45b6.thumb.jpg.795cc08ea710fb309c6e79ee09737469.jpg

When we arrived at the bar majority of the folks we had played Heads Up with earlier that day were down for the count. A combination of drinking and the crazy motion the boat was having. Of the two that showed up one hadn’t seemed to have stopped drinking since the Heads Up game. At some point I took my cheetah outfit off. The makeup was actually stickers so it was an easy change.

The night ended with a stop in Q and then I think another lap in the Social before calling it a night. I was trying my best on this trip not to push myself TOO hard.

I can't explain how encouraging this post was! I am also an older 20s/approaching 30s solo cruiser and I just hate to wait for someone to travel with when I'm capable right now. I did one solo on NCL Epic/Med cruise and it was amazing. Thinking I'm going to book solo for either May or Sept/Oct (when younger kids are in school).

I'm glad it helped! I am probably booking one of the new Virgin Voyages for the Fall! NO KIDS AT ALL! WOOO! I am also going on a family vacation at an all inclusive in Mexico in October. It'll be great to have a family vacation and also see how an all inclusive resort compares to a cruise.

I haven't done a full Europe solo (unless you count this one).

Thanks for the words of encouragement, I will try and post more this week!

I woke up on the fourth day of the cruise feeling very well rested. A fellow Californians had suggested we do some wine tasting at some point. Apparently her husband was busy working on the scavenger hunt that was to be held the next day and she wanted me to go with her to the blind tasting test that was to be held in Cellars later that morning.

I first jumped up to rush to get ready and then realized I hadn’t set my clock back yet and I could more leisurely get ready, my preferred way. I am sure I mentioned it before but I loved being able to get ready next to my balcony so I could gaze out the window.

I also knew I needed to hurry up and get my gift delivered for the mystery gift exchange since the big reveal was set for tomorrow. I decided to bring some local produce type items since I am from one of the largest agricultural areas in the world. However when I went to deliver it I realized it was in a studio and might be a little difficult to do. The room steward I met told me she would get it done for me though.

I arrived at the wine tasting right on time. It was a lot of fun since it was interactive and just the slight competition of trying to guess the correct wines excites the ultra competitive person inside me. I also live near a prominent wine region in California and tasting wine is something I do with significant regularity. They also paired it with macaroons. Overall it was a nice experience. I forget the cost, I think somewhere between 20-25$. I thought it was worth it in that it was a nice little experience, especially since we had all those sea days so it wasn’t like we were spending anything in ports.

After the event I sat at the small bar and chatted with the bar tender. We somehow got to talking about past trips and he told me he remembered me from the Halloween Singles cruise on the Bliss the year prior. I was MORTIFIED. I had met a nice(?) young gentleman on that cruise and he once came to that bar a little toasted and shared some embarrassing information with that bartender. Luckily he seemed to have taken it in stride and we just laughed it off.

UNADJUSTEDNONRAW_thumb_43eb.thumb.jpg.67dba60e58e514208d164203c83b51b7.jpg

Soon after a man came to the bar and joined me for a glass of wine. We had a nice conversation about life, traveling, careers etc. One of my favorite parts of cruising, those nice random friends you meet for an hour.

At that moment I was debating hard between watching Choir of Man for a second time, or checking out the game Bamboozled…

Bamboozled is an escape room type game but it is played in Q and you sit at a table with your team. I decided to just go alone and the cruise staff put me on a team with two really sweet couples. On the table was a box with a variety of locks on it. You got these laminated sheets that had different puzzles you needed to solve so you could open the locks. I was super hero themed and you occasionally got clues. No one was able to finish it when I was there. My group actually was far ahead for the most part but even we couldn’t solve it. It was pretty fun and I was really grateful that the group I was with was super friendly.

I wish I had known that it would have been offered more than just that time since some of my friends had said they were interested in trying it and I definitely wouldn’t have minded watching Choir of Man for a second time. Oh well, it was a fun adventure and nice to meet new people.

I was getting a bit hungry at that point since I hadn’t really eaten anything all day (it is a problem for me when I cruise!) I wondered around for a bit looking for some friends. I easily found them in DBH like normal. We all chatted for a but about plans for tonight and decided we would meet up at the DBH later to all go to the Hypnotist together. At that point I decided I would just power through the hunger and get dressed up for dinner and take myself on a nice date to Ocean Blue. My friend messaged me later to say the buffet had a lot of really good food - including crab legs. I decided to just stick with my plan though and have more time to get all dolled up for the night.

UNADJUSTEDNONRAW_thumb_44a1.thumb.jpg.1a22c7432c2d0218d52aa82ee749e0ca.jpg

Once I was ready I wandered around  a bit. I didn’t have a reservation but I stopped by the host stan before they opened and asked if they would get me. Like Onda they said yes if I got there right at 5:30 they would get me seated.

The offered me a seat right next to the window which I loved. I absolutely LOVE eating or drinking outside on a patio and that was one of the biggest bummers about a winter TA cruise. Obviously I was well aware this would be an issue for this cruise, it just mostly made me want to book a warm weather cruise ASAP.

Sometimes when I was alone on this trip I wasn’t really alone. I would spend time texting friends, checking Facebook, etc. This dinner though I decided to make a conscious effort to dine with myself. I only pulled out my phone to get pictures and spent the time just reflecting on my life, myself, and what I really wanted in life. I left feeling very content, proud of what I have been accomplishing but also realizing that life is really just about enjoying things day by day.

Sure many of you on the site might see this as obvious, but for me – someone who spent all of their 20’s in school knocking down big goals – it’s hard to just turn that ambition off and just learn to be content in just living life to enjoy it. Granted I still have a huge set of goals and a plan to live my life working towards them, but it doesn’t feel as rushed anymore.

UNADJUSTEDNONRAW_thumb_43dd.thumb.jpg.4e9311e739a8cefae340ee0abc9d53e5.jpg

Anyways back to the food pictures. I had a WONDERFUL mean at Ocean Blue. The service was great, the only snag I had was with getting my wine. I had wanted to have a glass of something – I forget what it was but it was a red and it was going to be a surcharge which they informed me of but I told them I did not care. It took them a bit to get it from Cellars and when I got it I just remember it being pretty bad. Despite the way I felt yesterday about the Tempranillo I drank by the bottle the second day, I ordered myself a glass of that to replace it. They didn’t end up even charging me for the wine I sent back, I wouldn’t have minded paying for it but it was nice they did that.

The onion bread they give is DELICIOUS. I tried not to fill up too much on it but I was starving and it was really good.

I ordered the Blazing Shrimp and some Clam Chowder for my starters both were delicious. I especially loved the sauce on the shrimp.

For my main course I went with a steak, I believe this was the 8oz but I am not sure. For my sides I picked both “premium sides” which I was told I would have to pay 2$ each for. Again I told them I did not care about the surcharge. The food was all great but I was getting full. I thought that the lobster mac and cheese was a bit too cheesy for me, felt almost soupy if that makes sense? The picture I have sucks so I apologize. I also had the brussel sprouts and those were very good.

This might have been one of the few desserts I had this trip. Cheesecake in a jar and it was very tasty but also very big.

After dinner it was just about time to meet my friends back in DBH.

Back at the DBH we were waiting on one friend, we made it down to the theater right before the hypnotist was going to perform and there were still plenty of seats. I decided to go on stage to try and get hypnotized but like all the other times I have volunteered for something like that it didn’t work.

I loved that there were quite a few cast members from Kinky Boots and Choir of Man who both came to the show and volunteered to be on stage. It was an all ages show and with kids in the front row it was pretty tame. The hypnotist seemed pretty cool but it was definitely one of the more boring hypnotists, probably because it was rated PG.

After the show we decided to pop into the 18+ comedy show happening in the Social. It was totally packed, not even much room to stand. I ended up just sitting on some small tables that were pushed together. The comedian was good – forgot his name. He had some joke about how his ex would always want to talk after they hooked up, I told him later that means he probably didn’t get the job done – he wasn’t pleased with my feedback.

After the comedy show I headed back to DBH for some beers. We had a pretty decent sized group there and team USA was really working on recruiting for the Ryder HicCup that would be happening later that week. I knew my friend Aled could chug a beer quickly but we had also heard our new friend Charlie could as well. I had them face of head to head. Charlie was actually faster but since he spilled a little he lost. I challenged Charlie with a 6 second handicap and he still whooped on me. I knew at that point he needed to be on my team for the Cup.

Once DBH started closing down we decided to head to the Social for some dancing and more drinks. This was one of my absolute favorite nights of the trip. We were all just dancing around all night and having a freaking blast. I ran into some of the Lemurs that night and one of them apologized for her friends drunken behavior the night before. He was a real cute guy but when he was a little too far gone I had lost interest. He wasn’t rude nor did he do anything bad so I reassured her and then later him that all was well. I was just trying to have a good time and didn’t want anyone to feel bad.

At one point in the night I was talking with the little lemur and one of my friends came up to us and I think he may have been drunkenly defending my honor? Idk it was strange and he told the lemur that he was my brother to sort of warn him to treat me well, confusing but I think thoughtful.

I snuck away from the bar a few times to go smoke cigarettes with Charlie and Will. We would go to the casino which wasn’t too bad. I played one of the machines and actually won a bit of money while we were in there. At some point I left the bar to run to my room for some flat shoes. I remember being conflicted with which guy I wanted to spend time with. I even told Doug, “Idk who to hang out with, the Little Lemur or the Big Ginger”. These are always the best types of vacation dilemmas LOL.

We ended up closing the bar down but decided to head to The Local for some late night carbs. We ended up with a group of about 8 or so and it basically felt like a scene from the musical Rent. Doug decided to kick it up a notch and soon we were all banging our fists on the table and singing  La Vie Boheme. The staff quickly shut that down and we finished our meal only being mildly obnoxious.

After food I headed back to the casino for a last cigarette with the guys. I ended up having a friend over to watch a movie and keep me company. I think I was up well past 4am that night, thankfully we got that extra hour of sleep!

Hey! Sorry I got distracted with getting dumped by a guy named Nick only to date another guy named Nick only for that to not work out either LOL. On a serious note I have been very busy at work and haven't had much time to relax. I'm spending the afternoon on the couch with some wine so I will try to crank a few days out.

if you are still single, I could introduce you to my single friend, nick.

did you play any pokemon go overseas?

I can't explain how encouraging this post was! I am also an older 20s/approaching 30s solo cruiser and I just hate to wait for someone to travel with when I'm capable right now. I did one solo on NCL Epic/Med cruise and it was amazing. Thinking I'm going to book solo for either May or Sept/Oct (when younger kids are in school).

Same here, well, in the early 30's solo cruiser, always nice reading reviews from other solos.

LOL 2020 is all about #nonewnicks I actually ran into another Nick I dated in 2019 a week ago and it made me all upset and I cried for a bit too long to my friend about being single. Got over that quickly though, I think I just needed a good cry.

I will try and update more this weekend! Finally things have calmed from the holidays!

Oh also I played only in Southampton before leaving. Not very much as there was lots of beer and even more new friends to occupy my time the day before the cruise.

Thanks! I always felt the same so your reminders are helping me push to finish. I realized yesterday was two months since the cruise started which just feels WILD. I cannot believe time passes so quickly.

Wow, I am impressed @Victorious8. Good to see the party scene on the Encore going strong.

I wish all my cruises had that many party people. You got lucky to find like-minded people on a Trans cruise...they really can go either way, socially. Luckily, It didn't take you long to make friends atall.

It definitely helps that it was an Inaugural sailing so lots of people who appreciate a good adventure!

Man I keep believe I have been home for over two months. I really need to wrap this up! I actually even have someone from the cruise visiting me this week...
