mbr_33 Posted November 14, 2019 #1 Share Posted November 14, 2019 My family and I are taking the 8-night Greek Isles cruise on Explorer in July, leaving from Rome. We are flying to Rome a few days early because we wanted to take the high-speed train from Rome to Naples to spend a couples of days in Sorrento & hopefully go to Capri to see the Blue Grotto. Not sure the best way to go about this...Can you take the train right to Sorrento or do we need to go to Naples first? Looking for any tips or advice from people who have done this before. Thanks! Rare cruisemom42 Posted November 14, 2019 #2 Share Posted November 14, 2019 You'll probably want to take one of the express (fast, few stops) trains from Rome to Naples. From Naples you have several options. You can take a regional train to Sorrento, which is easy logistically, as they depart from the main train station where you will be on arrival. There are a couple of options -- the very old, local Circumvesuviana train line (heavily used by locals and tourists -- and occasionally pickpockets -- and very crowded) or the Campania Express, which is a better option but has infrequent timings. Another option is to just arrange a private car to transfer you to Sorrento from the Napoli train station. This would be the easiest but also the most expensive. Your hotel would probably be able to arrange it for you or you can look online for well-reviewed options. There's also the ferry, but to me it wouldn't make a lot of sense to schlep yourselves from the train station to the ferry port to Sorrento ferry port and then up the slope to Sorrento proper... This site provides a more detailed summary of the main options: https://www.sorrentovibes.com/2019/04/04/from-naples-to-sorrento-best-ways/
