xeena Posted November 21, 2019 #1 Share Posted November 21, 2019 It has been several years since we were in the caymans...in the past, we walked to the right after getting off the ship to a beach bar where you could use your own gear and snorkel from the beach. anyone know if this is still possible? Capt_BJ Posted November 21, 2019 #2 Share Posted November 21, 2019 (edited) turning right there are two main snorkeling spots first is Eden Rock .. popular spot to stop being the nearest .... there is no 'beach bar' associated with the dive shop here but Paradise Grill is near so you may have thought they were connected or a wee bit further (less than 1/2 mile) is Sunset House and good snorkeling from shore here too. It will be less crowded as few will walk beyond Eden Rock. There is a very popular bar right on the water here - food available too - My Bar. VERY POPULAR with the local crowd as FEW cruisers head here so for lunch on a big ship day the locals come HERE! Neither of these spots is BEACH however. LEFT of the tender landing is the Seven Mile area and here's beach (and the reef is 1/2 mile off shore). RIGHT the shore is 'iron shore' where the coral comes right up to a shore line made of dead exposed OLD coral .... Capt_BJ Posted November 22, 2019 #5 Share Posted November 22, 2019 (edited) dive shops at both locations https://www.sunsethouse.com/dive-prices see bottom for rental prices: mask fins snorkel $10 (Cayman $1kyd = $12 US) http://www.edenrockdive.com/snorkeling.html Rental Snorkeling Equipment Mask & Snorkel US$ 7.25 Mask, Snorkel & Fins US$12.75 Snorkel Jacket US$ 7.25 Snorkel Package US$17.50 Full Face Mask Package US$30.00 Packages include Mask, Snorkel, Fins & Snorkeling Vest. ****************************************************************** note: both locations are what I'd call "big boy snorkeling" ... the water is TOO DEEP for standing ... use of a snorkeling safety vest is heartily recommended . . .
