St. Thomas on our own

We will be visiting St. Thomas, basically, just for the morning.  We want to see the synagogue on Crystal Gade.  Is this in walking distance from the cruise port?

If we do not want to go to the beach, what are some other sites you can recommend.  If we just want to do a little shopping, is there an area that has a lot of shops?

Someone mentioned taking an "open air" shuttle around town.  Can this be found at the cruise terminal?

I have never been to St. Thomas and would appreciate any recommendations for our short visit.

Thank you.

Your ship should dock at Havensight/WICO where there are plenty of shops and restaurants.

The synagogue is about 1.5 miles from the dock. Many people walk but many people also take a taxi for about $4 per person each way. Taxis readily available at the dock and near the synagogue.
