Bagpuss33 Posted January 30, 2020 #1 Share Posted January 30, 2020 We are planning a cruise with tui which ends in Jordan so we can visit Petra in November 2020. Can anyone help / advise on what TUI charge for these excursions as I have phoned them and the won’t release the cost until the holiday is booked. ormy Posted January 30, 2020 #2 Share Posted January 30, 2020 Not sure what present cost is, but whatever the cost its a must do - we did it with Thomson Cruises many years ago and it was a magical day, something you would probably do only once so make the most of it. We are doing similar cruise 2021 ending in Aquaba but will not be doing Petra again. You will be amazed by the place.
Pensioncruiser Posted January 30, 2020 #3 Share Posted January 30, 2020 Totally agree, it is hard work but please don't use the horses for the journey back they are very cruel to them and we witnessed one tipping over. We went past the treasury and had tea with the bedouins absolutely fantastic don't worry about the cost it's a one in a lifetime experience. Vitalsign Posted January 30, 2020 #4 Share Posted January 30, 2020 (edited) Hi Bagpuss33 we are on the repositioning cruise on Discovery this April from Dubai to Aqaba and the trips to Petra are as follows Sorry can't put all the details on here Petra 10hours £124 Petra & Little Petra 11 hours £120. ( don't know why this is cheaper than the above) Petra & Trek to Monastery 11hours £108 All the above include lunch in a hotel I have been to Petra twice with Marella and there was only one trip so can't help as to which one will be the best but as has been said this is a trip not to be missed It cannot be done independently. The first time I went it was in January and there was snow on the journey there and back in the mountain area so you may need to take warm clothes and good walking shoes with you although no snow at the actual site As Pensioncruiser says please walk there and back as the horses have a terrible time. You can have a camel ride from the Treasury to further into the site and back which is fun and they look after their camels as they are worth a lot to them Edited January 30, 2020 by Vitalsign
joe king Posted February 24, 2020 #5 Share Posted February 24, 2020 We did the Trek to the Monastery in November 2018. its a long walk, about 8 mile there and back but well worth it. Fantastic place.
AlanCruise Posted February 25, 2020 #6 Share Posted February 25, 2020 For anyone who is considering a private visit using a taxi, note that the entrance price for Petra is about £55 if you are staying a night in Jordan (not sure if ship counts) and £95 if you aren't staying. This is part of the reason trip costs are high. It's also a long way!
Vitalsign Posted February 25, 2020 #7 Share Posted February 25, 2020 Would never recommend going in a taxi As said its a long way and if you have a breakdown - a big problem Although if the day of the overnight you should get back to the ship eventually
