IAH to Galveston - Car Rental

Thanks to all of you who replied a couple weeks ago when I asked about an 'affordable' way to transfer 6 from IAH (Houston Bush Intercontinental Airport) to the Port of Galveston. (We are taking the Ecstasy April 8-13 out of Galveston for a Western Carribean cruise - me, DH, two DS's (3 and 7) and Gma and Gpa.) Since all you Cruise Critics have been so helpful to me in my planning, I wanted to share what I found.

 

For us, on those dates, the best price I could find was renting a minivan from Hertz. We're Sam's Club members, so we got a 5% discount, and the one way to the port is $129 and the one way back to the airport is $108. So the total is $237 (plus an $8-12 cab fare for back to the ship when I drop off the rental. I'll be dropping it after 1 PM, which is when they close, so their free shuttle will no longer be running.). This is right around $40pp, round trip. Much better than $33 pp for just one way through Carnival.

 

So that's my scoop! I know I'd read for someone else, Enterprise was much cheaper (for our dates their van rental was $155 one way!). So I'm sure when you're cruising, etc., plays a large role. Just wanted to share what I found from my research. (And if anyone knows of anything cheaper, let me know!;) )
