Panama Canal on Summit

As you have probably read on other threads, the ferry boat thru the canal is excellent. Driving back on the bus, the driver would stop when he spotted wildlife like a monkey or sloth, and stopped for us to take photos of the Madden dam, too.

Next time I'm taking the full day to Panama City with a stop at Gatun locks, with lunch in a restaurant. Saw some photos of the old city today and it looks like Spain.

One question we had about taking a shore excursion through the canal like you did, is is it worth it to pay extra for a shore excursion through the canal when you are already on the ship that will also go through it??? What are your thoughts on this?

Another thought - if we decide to stay on the ship and go through the canal that way, once we reach the far end of the canal and stop to pick up those who went on shore excursions - are we able to get off the ship at that point and if so, is there anything to do at that port?
